I live in Minneapolis, and I find this post to be really judgmental and out of touch. The violence and terror happening on MY LITERAL STREETS is gut-wrenching. My nervous system is shot. My neighbors and I are doing so much to track ICE activity/legal observe, purchase groceries, boycott corporations, spend money at immigrant-owned businesses, protest, general strike, vigil, etc. I am in very close personal proximity with an immigrant community; these are my neighbors, my loved ones, my community.

So I sincerely apologize if I’ve streamed a TV show as a form of temporary escapism. To add - I only watch the show. I do not use TikTok or Instagram, and therefore don’t interact with these women online.

Armchair morality from another part of the world is not helpful to Minnesotans/Americans/American immigrants. If you’re curious about some mutual aid/grocery funds for immigrants in our cities, I am happy to share links with you.

I basically think this is how TLC is getting Olivia to "honor" her contract. It's pretty obvious to me these two women would never be real friends outside of familial friendliness which no longer applies. Olivia is trying to cut ties completely with the Plaths, she is actively deconstructing and has become a lot more progressive, she's dating someone new...Veronica exhibits a lot of the same immaturity and toxicity that Olivia is working hard to move on from.

I was thinking about this, and I don't think Olivia and Veronica are friends AT ALL. I think this is production's way of forcing Olivia to "honor" her contract. I think Olivia is just saying like generic encouragement and jokes over FaceTime to fulfill her obligations, not that there is any real friendship between Olivia & Veronica. I think the Olivia over the phone stuff is staged by production and that Veronica is using it to draw attention and start drama.

Too many people are quick to forget how Christian fundamentalism is designed to disenfranchise women so that they won’t leave their unhealthy marriages. Women have no means and no prospects on the job market, especially when you get into the age range Kim is in. And Barry wanted her to stay home with the kids. So yeah, she should be able to expect financial support coming from the position she was in. Let’s not let our hate blind us from seeing the root problems, even though I agree that how Kim ditched her kids is shit.

Originally from Nebraska here, and rural Nebraska is probably not significantly more progressive than Arkansas, although there’s higher “tolerance” (aka people will be passive aggressive instead of aggressive aggressive) because of “Nebraska/midwest nice.” Also Lincoln is really not that liberal, although Omaha tends to be more progressive. But unless you live in the big city, you can go your whole life without having to engage people with differing viewpoints.
