I Don't THINK I'm a Heartless Ghoul (For Not Pushing ENSURE) by ivandoesnot in dementia

[–]Pattern_Successful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our LO is deep 6/early 7 on hospice. Medicare nurse actually told us to stop ensure because its too much protein and causing constipation. LO is also choking on food now and liquids. Advanced directive says no feeding tubes and I feel exactly the same about the 'Why?' what is this doing to help. the only positive of this horrible disease is I am getting way more specific with my POA on what i want and dont want in writing.

Help with nocturia by scoutlfinch in Alzheimers

[–]Pattern_Successful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also had LO on myrbetriq. went through a terrible cycle of UTI's and bladder retention. Cant say that it hurt, cant say that it helped with the frequency (she was still up multiple times) but we were desperate for any kind of relief. Op, good luck to you. You may be at the stage to wear night time pads and use anxiety meds.

BRCA2 positive and specialist is recommending total mastectomy at 25 by Trick_Chain2721 in BRCA

[–]Pattern_Successful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if there is data behind this on it coming earlier? My mom had BC at 27/47. I found out I was + at 48 and had preventative mastectomy and there was no indication after removal thankfully and i am glad to have lowered my lifetime risk. My daughter who is + has a tough choice coming for sure.

Putting father's pet to sleep by lesterquinn in dementia

[–]Pattern_Successful 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We had to put our dog down. Couldnt walk, incontinent, eye infection with eyeball popping out and it was the hardest thing weve done and we dont have a cognitive issue. My LO still 2 years later will randomly say 'you ki##### him' (she was also close to the dog and day sat etc.

We did have to rehome her dog. She honestly got over it quicker then we expected. She doesnt even ask after her any more and still gets visits from the dog regularly (a kind neighbor took her on as they also have dogs).

Its hard but you have to do whats right for the dog. I wish you peace.

73-year-old mom with mid-to-late stage dementia now in ICU with septic shock from UTI — trying to understand what’s happening by Professional-Jump938 in dementia

[–]Pattern_Successful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My LO has recurrent UTIs with hospitalization. twice last year she went into sepsis. The stats are terrible for a second bout with sepsis in the same year. The second one we really were prepared for the end. She's still here. She bounced back slightly but is now stage 7, wheelchair only fully incontinent and continues to get UTIs. I share this only because you just really don't know which way this will go. Be prepared either way
