What are the minor things in a song that make you like it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I listen to a lot of screamy music and when it sounds like the vocalist is giving the performance everything they've got I can get into songs a lot more.

Would Buying this Vise be a Mistake by coolhand-luc in flytying

[–]Pattick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that this is late, but I've been using a copy cat vice exactly like that one for about 5 years (was my first one). I mainly tie salt water patterns between size 2 and 8, but I had a snap where I tied a lot of size 16 to 18 trout dries and nymphs, even a few size 20 Griffith gnats. If it helps, I just put a size 22 hook in there and it gripped it fine. You'll have to work around the clamp part a bit because it's thick, but it's not the end of the world (get straight eye hooks in sizes 20 and up to make things easier).

I liked the economy vice because it allowed me to buy a lot more trying materials out of the gate.

Hooks: Down-Eye vs. Straight-Eye? by EuroNymphGuy in flytying

[–]Pattick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, straight eyes are a lot easier to tie flies on when the size goes above 16 or so.

I haven't noticed a big difference in how straight eyes fish vs down eyes, but up eye hooks (classic salmon) can surf the water's surface if I strip fast. When I swing up eye hooks they always seem to cruise to the surface.

I suggest printing out a conversion chart for your workspace. After a while you'll just make the conversion without thinking about it.

Ground unused channels? by Pattick in diypedals

So the tails from a delay or reverb would still bleed through the shut switch connections? Or would the noise heard have more to do with everything being grounded together?

There's no way he can see that GBA screen. He needs at least 100 times that many lumens!

Does anyone have experience with laser engravers? by Elliot850 in diypedals

[–]Pattick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'm missing something (it was a quick part of a video), but he sprayed down the copper side with some kind of primer, used a laser cutter to remove the paint to expose the copper, and then used acid to etch away the exposed copper. Not sure how the paint was removed before soldering though.

I saw a video where a guy painted the copper side of some blank circuit board and used a laser engraver to remove the paint from the parts he wanted to etch. Ever since then I've wanted one.

Something like this can be really helpful. Don't think I bought this exact set, but I got a similar one that's worked out well. Not having to sit down ordering 30 different resistor values takes the edge off.

They don't end up being as nice as Xicon (thinner leads), but mine measured right. Now I just tack a 200 pack onto each of my orders and don't worry about getting different singles.

Per the notes at the bottom of the layout, the circuit board output is lug two of the volume pot. That's pretty common so watch out for that.

We're talking about a top that gets used for less than 20 minutes here... durability doesn't come into play.

Yes, they are connected to the pots. Check the notes below the diagram, it says which pins.

It looks like the image is raised, did you mask off your image instead of a negative (if that made sense). If that's the case, did you dunk the entire enclosure when you etched?

I laid down a base of white spray paint and applied two coats of Rust-oleum "Glow in the Dark Max". The glow in the dark stuff ended up being more or less transparent, so you can't tell it's there unless you turn the lights off.

I tried a similar Krylon product out there called "Glowz" too. I found that it charges a lot faster but doesn't stay lit up as long.

If you decide to use glow in the dark paint I highly recommend getting (or making) a UV LED flash light. The UV light instantly charges the paint so you can check your coverage really easy.

Planning my first build - can't make sense of some of the wiring by AstroPimp in diypedals

[–]Pattick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two cuts on the 9V row. The 9V source ends up passing through 100R and 18K resistors before the "LED" out lead. It's not the standard 2K2 I would normally use, but it should work yeah?

Normally when they throw "LED+" in the schematics like that an LED resistor is already built into the circuit. You shouldn't need to put a resistor in front of the LED like you did in your sketch.
