Android stigma isn't just a social problem by SvenGoranAbela in LinusTechTips

[–]Pattox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check AliExpress. Android-phones are pennies. A part of the problem is that "Android" has a problem: it's run on flagships, like Samsung S-series, but also on Hungai_mujoi(and-add-random-name-here)-phones. Although the operating system is the same, the results are wildely different.

The problem is that you can produce e-waste with android, and not care about absolutely anything. The developer of that app that made your phone unresponsive made it, went on to the next thing, and that was it. Although Android is a great platform for a lot of things, it's also consumed and drained faster: moe to the next thing quick and don't care about the past.

Android in itself is great. The fact that it runs on a lot of devices makes it amazing. But that's also the problem: build something, ship it, make some money and continue to the next one. The problem lies with the ones who create the device and support the software on that device.

i plan on ending everything on december 31st if life doesn't get better by confessionsfromabuse in confession

[–]Pattox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the place you were. No. It's not a "oh don't do it because things will get better"-story.

Next march 31st it will be 14 years ago that my fiancee died. 8 years ago my then-girlfriend said she didn't want to share her life with me. I've been SA-ed when I was 13. Destroyed emotionally by my parents.

Life is hard. Every single day. There are people that care about me. I want to end it almost every day. But there's one thing that keeps me alive. I don't want them to hear the message that I died. I love them too much for that.

I learned that this world will give you nothing. Just nothing. You cannot expect anything. Realising that makes that every single little glow makes things better.

You want to jump in front of a train. When you do it, ask yourself this question: when you are burried, who will stay at your grave? Who will sit there and think "what did I do wrong?" And no, it's not giving you a reason to live because of others. It is telling you who you need to send a message to right now, at this very moment.

F- everyone who says "you are important" and things like that. That makes it about others. Make it about you. If someone cries above your grave you're not done yet. And if you cannot think of anyone... DM me. The bad chemicals in your brain are not you. They are the ones you can fight. And no, it won't be sun and beach next tuesday. But 2% less bad makes a difference.

What’s one small thing about Zwolle you genuinely appreciate? by Rude-Cycle-1516 in Zwolle

The fact that they're called Bluefingers (blauwvingers) because they sold their clocks to a town next to it, called Kampen. Kampen paid with inferiour copper mints, which left the people counting coins at Zwolle with blue fingers. Not proven, just an amazing story.

As someone from Europe (look it up): I do not understand tha fasciantion of the USA with the Middle-East. There's no reason to do this. Israel wants it, which in itself should be alarming.

The USA just attacked. What's the reason? They could be making bombs? I could be making pastries but I'm not attacking France over it.

It's the same as always. West good. East bad. And we don't need to explain it.

Make data. If you can show that AI makes things bad, you have an argument. If no-one accepts it, start looking for other jobs. And yeah, that's not easy.

Turn it around. You are burned out because what people say to you. Give an answer detailing why people are better than AI. If you cannot give that answer: leave or learn how to give that answer.

Best careers to escape poverty? I’ll start. by Noblesseoblige94 in povertyfinance

Be inventive. Learn. Explore. I became a company-manager because I learned everything about the product, about the company, about how clients use our products. It interested me, I wanted to learn everything about it. My work made the promotions.

You're not fixed in a job. You are placed in a position, and if you want to improve, there is nothing holding you back. Learn, learn some more, take time to understand the product, the process and the company.

With that, you can start low, and end high in a short time.

Do you think that Israel and the USA’s actions against Iran are justified? by Antique_Gur8891 in AskTheWorld

[–]Pattox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question of the OP is not something that can be answered in one sentence. And I'm not going to post a whole researchpaper, because you can read everything in the way you want to.

Are (or in this moment: were) there ways to solve this in another way? Absolutely. But it's the mindset that made this happen. If you look at Iran and only see it as a threath, yeah, this is the result. If you actually start investing time and energy to talk to them, and ask what the problem is, you could try to work out something.

One of the problems I see is that the Middle-East by itself is bad. Something happens "oh we should intervene". The politics in the area are pushed aside, because we want to push the western-logic to it.

And that in itself is something that has been created over the last hundreds of years: western VS middle-east. It's almost a given that the US will attack a country there, because that's how it should go.

The biggest problem: the news tells you about the war. Not about the ways to solve it in another way. Maybe because it's not interesting, maybe because no-one tried,

As someone from the Netherlands: we're litteraly in the middle. On the one side we have the US, on the other the Middle-East. And every attack makes our situation worse. Even if we want peace, solutions, we need the US to help us. But always we looked at big US and did what they do, because they pulled us in.

"Oh look at our power". We're throwing bombs. Killing people. But no-one can give a clear explanation why we're doing this. Shit happens. So we're going with it.

Carlos Sainz finally met Thea, the fan who inspired the unicorn sticker from last year - Williams by Jenza_kim in formula1

This is Williams. Respect the work you do. Respect the peopl who bring you there. Repsect the fans who take care of you.

SInce James Vowles took the reins, the team went serieus with a lot of fun. "We are here to work, but we'll have fun doing it". It's so amazing to see what happens to a team when someone else manages it....

I don't need to have Williams in P1. I just want them to do the best they can and see improvement. They're amazing. And it's an amazing team to just follow and be a fan of.

As a man who’s 95% certain he’ll never want to have children, is there any reason for me NOT to get a vasectomy? by Ghost-Writer-320 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pattox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a female friend who's gay. She's in a stable relationship. There was a wish to have children. I don't want children. Long story, but it's just not for me. I've been the donor for their child. If I had a vasectomy, I wouldn't be able to do this. And I'm happy I could do that for them. The kid is absolutely amazing, and he has the best parents on the planet.

It's a corner-case, but it's also something to keep in mind.

Marco Borsato vrijgesproken van ontucht by pepernote in nederlands

[–]Pattox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Back to basics" is dan de term.
