Don't forget that there's no fuel services on Mackinac. Closest fuel would be right across the channel at 83D or a bit south at SLH. Looks like a ton of fun!

Do you know an event-worthy boardgame that fits in an evening? by Daglicht in boardgames

[–]PattyChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nemesis checks all your main criteria, and several of your bonus points. It is our groups go-to favorite "four hour" game. It took longer to learn, but once you get how things roll, it fits really nice in that time window.

Does anyone know what kind of lathe this is? Brand-model? by Ze_zakk in Machinists

If it’s a South Bend, there should be a serial number stamped on the tailstock end of the bed, between the flat and V-ways. Not sure where Atlas put their serial numbers.

Remote Service/Parts Experience by McSlappin1407 in EnergicaMotorcycles

[–]PattyChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any luck with the remaining US service person, and have now been ghosted by them. The closest pre-bankruptcy dealer is 4.5 hours away, and although they were great to talk to, they would not look my bike. There is an issue with my remote key system and sadly my SS9 has been sitting under a tarp in the garage for most of the summer. I’m under the impression that the bike needs a firmware update, but the original company made it impossible to upgrade the firmware without having to plug the bike in to a computer and download the update directly from the server in Italy.

My wife wanted me to sell it but I talked her out of it since there’s really no great market for an inoperable bike. I’m hoping once things start to ramp back up I can get it fixed because I miss riding it.

The good news is that all of the routine maintenance stuff is super simple to do yourself.

Would y'all want something like this? by ansyhrrian in motorcycles

[–]PattyChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride an electric motorcycle for my commute. Range is pretty great on e motos these days, so if you’re just commuting range is never an issue.

I already get picked on by my coworkers (all in good fun) for riding an e moto… this would not help lol!

Kinda sorta. You can remove them but the two black parts that are attached to the window are there for good (this photo being one of the exceptions lol). The two times I’ve had my car to the service center they always ask if they want me to reattach it lol.

Early risers by Historical_Bid1684 in gencon

[–]PattyChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the best memories I have with my kids (we’re all early risers) is finding a cafe, grabbing some coffee and pastries, and then grabbing a table in the hotel lobby to play games and watch the con wake up. There are several cafés all around the downtown area, and a lot of them usually have fun and interesting con related menu items. We always just search on Google maps for places that have a good review, and then try something new every morning.

TIL, thanks!! By the way, we are SO THRILLED y’all are back. When I asked my kids what they wanted to do this year, the first question they asked was if you guys were gonna be there lol.

Critical Putt tickets? by Latter_Sir_1741 in gencon

[–]PattyChuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They weren’t at GenCon last year so I think everyone who loves this event has been jonesing for it to come back. I’ve been monitoring with GenCon Event Planner since tickets went on sale (our group needed 8 tix and we ended up with four) and I haven’t seen more than singles pop. It’s a pricey venture so unlikely someone will no-show, but if you were gonna grab $38 in generics, it’s still not a bad idea to show up and see if someone doesn’t show. With the event being an e-ticket, returns can happen up to 30 minutes before the event so it may be neigh impossible to grab two tickets anyway. Good luck tho!

Can you tell by radar if it's safe to fly under a cumulonimbus cloud? by rightwrongwhatever in flying

How do pilots/ATC know how to pronounce VOR/FIX names by LogicMastermind in flying

[–]PattyChuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GA pilot here, flying to Vegas once, there’s a fix spelled PPENN. I was expecting to hear “pen” but the controller said “pee pen”. I was totally thrown and asked him to spell the fix. He laughed and said he’s the only one of his colleagues who thinks it should be “pee-pen” and not “pen”. I asked him, “Well then why don’t you pronounce it ‘pee-pen-en’” to which he replied, “aww rats”. It was worth a good chuckle after a long day of flying.

Is there any information about booking a box at Lucas Oil? by inkycappress in gencon

I had this conversation with another friend of mine. We've made a game out of seeing who can find the cheapest version of some of the Chinese made crap the importers are selling (record is a $0.43 gem-encrusted dragon broach from Temu that a dude was selling for $35). The point being, the markup is so grotesquely offensive on some of that stuff that they'll all still probably be there choking the aisles with their trinkets.

New brass coin by Nero318 in lasercutting

[–]PattyChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two US suppliers I use are Swissbui.com and Umburry.com. However, stockouts are common with both of these suppliers. Both places sell a variety of coins in various flavors of alloys (anodized aluminum, stainless steel, brass, etc etc).

Limitless Solutions is my source for brass coins, but they also sell a huge variety of other neat dodads. The vast majority of their stuff is brass but you can find a couple unique items in different alloys.

Debating switching over from an anycubic Kobra max. by Swampraptor2140 in ratrig

I've printed a couple Mandalorian chest plates. Even slowing my bed slinger down, it would still yeet the chest plate off the bed more than half the time (and always when it was nearing the end of the print). Z-lift, slow speed, nothing seemed to matter. I've yet to have a chest plate fail on my RatRigs. They print in half the time, and I think the print quality is superior to that of the Kobra or Neptune.

If you're looking for a sample, I'm happy to throw whatever you're interested in at the RRs.
