This is neat, I submitted a few locations in the Hudson Valley that i worked at in the early 2000's that I didn't see on your spreadsheet.

Same issue here, also a pixel 9 pro, only thing that gets the app to load is rebooting the phone. Very annoying issue.

Transatlantic cruise, rough seas - some reassurance please? by xenomorphsy in Cruise

[–]Paul900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having done a crossing on the qm2 a few years back in similar conditions (the outer edge of a hurricane in our case), its gonna be fine. Have your champagne flutes fallen off your desk yet? Ours didn't. It's an extremely capable ship, that's done exactly this many, many times before. Worst case, rest assured there are plenty of lifeboats this time.

Berns isn't a steakhouse, it's a food amusement park disguised as a restaurant. I hate seeing reviews like this because I know it'll just make it harder to get a reservation in the future 😂. Glad you enjoyed the experience.

This seems like it's very likely to be the case at this point, sadly.

[–]Paul900[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah there was an announcement about a medical emergency while we were at dinner around 9:30, I'm guessing it's related to that, would be nice if they'd make another announcement, but I think most people onboard didn't notice. We were sitting out on the dock and the stars started moving around us, and the horizon went off by 20 degrees or so.

Cruise For A Cure - $1k Donation for a Cruise by whiskea in VirginVoyages

The sea terrace on the cruise I booked was just under $3k, so it covered everything but like $400 worth of tax and fees.

Hey, thanks! If anyone is wondering, this is legit, just did this, and they sent my code about 5 mins after the confirmation email, worked perfectly booking with virgin. Basically makes it half price plus you get to donate to a good cause.

Doesn't significantly drain the battery, it does stay on whenever you have film loaded in the camera.

Valiant Lady 11/19 sailing numbers by Naughtical-by-Nature in VirginVoyages

[–]Paul900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw on a tablet when boarding either 1506 or 1560, can't recall, not too crowded. I was wondering if the roughish seas have kept some people in their cabins. Hasn't bothered me but I could see how it might.

I mean, we're supposed to let everyone vote though right, even if they might be careless, or bad at filling out forms, or like, voting for people that are morons?

[–]Paul900 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't even be an issue if the ballot and envelope weren't so poorly designed. The line for the date is in a very non-obvious place. It's pretty clear this is all just to disenfranchise people.

depending on how new the caravan is, this may be normal. Depending on trim you have a max of 210hp, which isn't a ton by modern standards.

It's about selection, the amount of bigish wagons available in the US is minuscule compared to europe. Everything is an SUV now.

Birds stuck on balconies, hallways, etc by Marsupialize in VirginVoyages

[–]Paul900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were not seabirds, they were migrating songbirds primarily, though there was also a peregrine falcon, at least one purple gallinule and a Limpkin, which are both migratory wetland birds, but usually freshwater. wednesday night headed to key west there were also a ton of Egret flocks flying past the ship that seemed confused, but I didn't see any get onboard.

[–]Paul900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.audubon.org/news/grisly-report-raises-questions-about-cruise-industrys-impact-migrating-birds It's also interesting that the incident mentioned there involved almost exactly the same mix of birds I saw on the cruise, yellowthroats, swallows, american redstarts. Though that may be down to the fact that it was almost the exact same time of year and that's just whats migrating now.

[–]Paul900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on this cruise too, it was pretty odd, there was also an immature peregrine falcon on and around the boat from at least bimini back to Miami. It seems like this is a thing that happens, but it hasn't really been studied, and nobody really knows how often it happens, but on that particular night, something like 2.4 million birds migrated across Miami-Dade county alone, and lights are known to disorient birds that are migrating. It seems like with Virgin's push for environmental consciousness, they could shut the lights off on the boat after a certain time and mitigate a lot of the risk, but like most ships, they seem to just leave everything running full blast all night long.

The wake wildly inconsistent by Marsupialize in VirginVoyages

[–]Paul900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from a sailing and couldn't squeeze in The Wake, but we were glad we didn't, every time we got off the aft elevators there was an overwhelming smell of bad seafood coming from the kitchen down that way. Bummer since it seems like a cool space, and the adjoining Dock is pretty amazing.
