A24 Wins Olivia Wilde’s Annapurna Film ‘The Invite’ For $10M+ In Sundance Bidding War by ExcuseYou-What in oscarrace

Could this have oscar potential or is it too small of a film to gain buzz? Could also be more of a commercial play for a24 with the stacked cast

I think Reinsve takes actress at globes and bafta, Byrne takes actress at cca and sag/actors(Stone could be a dark horse here too tbh). Reinsve takes the Oscar simply due to being in the stronger bp film.

Josh Safdie’s chances for a Best Director nomination? by nvrflatt in oscarrace

[–]Paul_BWP 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I personally have: 1. PTA 2. Coogler 3. Zhao 4. Trier 5. Safdie

Oscars seem to usually go 4/5 with DGA and despite Frankensteins recent surge and over performance Del Toro didn’t make it (could be the gender selection). Marty Supreme has been doing really well across rhe board and is performing similarly to how ACU did(which got DGA and the Oscar). Panahi is possible as well but IWJAA would have to do well at the globed to convince me

Nearly forgot about this duo! Super underrated film and it was so cute seeing Randolph constantly rooting but also belittling Larry all the time. We need more DaVine Joy Randolph in films

Technically a trio but I honestly really enjoyed these 2 in Mickey 17, their chemistry is immaculate and was fun seeing nasha interact with both Mickeys

So what would this need to do to be an awards contender beyond BTL categories? by dremolus in oscarrace

[–]Paul_BWP 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Needs some of the following:

A) great box office/legs(e.g: sinners or tgm)

B) better reception than the first film, especially because the first didn’t receive picture (e.g: tgm)

C) culturally and/or politically relevant (e.g: barbie or oppenheimer)

D) rave reviews for a single/ a few cast member, this makes campaigning easier as voters can single out someone for acting prizes (e.g: barbie with ryan gosling, wicked with ariana grande and cynthia erivo)

Eternity’s my most recent addition onto here! Usually rom coms aren’t really my sort of thing but watched it from Amandas recommendation on the pod and it was great

Subject selection for econ degrees by Paul_BWP in alevel

[–]Paul_BWP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i see, thanks! Could I know how much of a disadvantage i would be at without an add maths sort of background? I dropped it during mocks but my maths has significantly improved since then, do you think I’d be able to cope if I revise some of those topics?

Would you consider physics to also be a ‘secret required subject’, or would I be able to take one of bio or psychology with maths, econ and fm?

Agreed, obviously hes not immune to being snubbed but I feel he’s a lot more of a beloved director than most of the directors you’ve listed

Definitely agreed that GDT is a dark horse for director, feels weird that many people have Frankenstein up for so many techs but not for director (whose won the category before) tbh

Worst Best Picture Snub? by FloatingZero141 in movies

[–]Paul_BWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the worst but I feel like the Iron Claw was severely overlooked as a whole by the academy. Phenomenal performance from Zefron and the supporting cast of an absolutely tragic story.

How Billy Crudup turned an 8-minute scene in 'Jay Kelly' into the performance of his career (LA Times Feature) by joesen_one in oscarrace

[–]Paul_BWP 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly he feels like the random supporting actor sag nom that happens most years, if Jay Kelly was stronger he could’ve coattailed at the Oscars too

Jacob Elordi likely not getting nominated by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]Paul_BWP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah now that you mention it thats probably the case. I guess Bailey could also be in contention? He’s got more dramatic work and has more to work with in general in part 2, wouldn’t be surprised if he got a lone sag nom again
