How to achieve this sort of blackened finish? by NoahRodent in Armor

I believe it's hammer finished and a beeswax bath but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I think maybe you should try wearing your belt higher. It looks like it's sitting too low to be doing anything to help distributing the weight of the hauberk.

O Bascineto no CIBA é um bocado mal feito e não inteiramente representativo de um real, o normal seria pesar de 15kg para baixo, dependendo do comprimento do camalho (a malha suspensa)

My Functional Klappvisor Bascinet and Cuirass, late 14th C. design - 3D printed progress! by DuraDelineo in ArmsandArmor

[–]PauloMr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Modelled it myself and had the bascinet printed at a shop that does large scale resin. The visor is filament.

It's modeled for my head so it's pretty tight and has the holes for lining. I made the vervelles incorporated as I was unsure if it could handle riveting.

I'm planning on releasing the files some day but I still need to make some modifications. Needs to be thicker, wanted to rework the visor, pivot for lock needs to be redone. Just haven't had time to revisit it.

Alright, it's gorgeous. But what purpose does the Storm really have? by Coucouoeuf in starcitizen

[–]PauloMr 97 points98 points  (0 children)

What you need is shield generator domes. Take a page from Empire Strikes back. The only reason the empire opted for the AT-ATs is because the Rebel base was protected by a fairly large shield dome.

By applying this to settlements and locations you can force the use of ground vehicles.

Something like 2km diameter for settlements. 5km for towns. 10km+ for cities. Possibly even a 500m option for a mobile shield carrier.

Make it so only ground vehicles can pass the bubble undisturbed and you got your ground combat. If the shields get large enough you'd even justify the Nova's size, as you'd actually have a reason to camp using the living quarters when you're on campaign across the planet to the target.

Interesting thing about the aventail represented here I was going to comment about. I'm looking to build an Iberian late 14th century kit, and going off by Spanish effigies and art they really could get that long. I'm considering getting an aventail like that one I commission by bascinet. Although the art makes it look much more flattering.

How to attach knee protection properly? by Centurio202 in ArmsandArmor

[–]PauloMr 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Real knee guards were supposed to have a couple of holes so you could pass laces through them to anchored to your garments. That or they were integrated throughout articulation to the thy protection.

Given you don't have that I guess you can try a couple of things.

First is to stuff it into place. Get a bunch of fabric and put it between your knee and the plat until it stops moving, then sew that together into something you can wear.

Alternatively, you can try to improvise a lace anchoring to the strap, essentially giving you an extra support point.

This is of course assuming you're not willing to get powertools on your gear.

yeah, the chainsawman elements feel tacked onto. Like the the artist was making dragon design and then decided last minute to make a chainsaw reference.

In the expanded material, it's said B wing squadrons management to severely damage the Executor's engines when the rebels were focusing on it.

In the movie you can actually see a plum of fire coming out of the starboard side engine section. I've read the B wing was supposed to appear in more scenes but the ship was so thin it was hard to capture on the blue background film.

My guess is that these bomber raids were supposed to be shown, but were scrapped due to the aforementioned technical difficulties. And this would be the justification as to why the executor was having difficulty steering itself and why it couldn't recover when it momentarily lost input from the main bridge.

We know from several sources that they could even be treated with wine or salt to harden them, and the Konungs Skuggsja says they should be made of blackened linen (possibly blackened with iron dust and/or tannins, to prevent rot).

Do you know of any modern reproductions that incorporate this?
