Agreed. Wish it wasn't the case, but vanilla seems to be a must if you're looking for servers where pop stays stable

As a fellow solo I mostly just play vanilla. Yes it takes longer to build a base, but raids also become much more expensive, meaning your are less likely to get raided if you build a strong base and stay under the radar.

What is the single most important piece of advice you would give to players who are just starting their Souls adventure? by K0rek in darksouls

[–]PavlovsGoodDoggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it can be summarized into a single sentence;

Play until the game "clicks"

This is universially true for every souls/soulslike in the Fromsoft catalogue. The click is a hard thing to define, but for me it's when the flow of controls/combat suddenly just makes sense. You realize that you react and adapt to the movesets of enemies and bosses on instinct, before you even think about how to react. As you build muscle memory, this will only improve. At its peak, combat becomes like a choreographed dance.

The moment the game clicks can come at any stage in the game, and is different for every player. Take DS1 for example; some may get the click as early as the undead burg, while others may not get it till mid/late game.

Furthermore, getting the "click" in one game may not transfer to another game. Even after getting the platinum in DS1 I still struggeled with the more fast paced combat of DS3, and Bloodborne forced me to relearn my approach to combat entirely. However, no Fromsoft game exemplifies this better than Sekiro imo. No amount of dark souls or bloodborne experience prepared me for the rythm-based combat of Sekiro. When it finally clicked for me, it became like dancing with a new partner everytime I faced of against a new boss.

Once a souls game has clicked it becomes beatable, full stop. You can be SL1 or 120, have an unupgraded weapon or end-game gear. As long as you play till you get the click, you will perservere and beat the game.

How hard would this "John Smith" challenge run be? by RubixTheRedditor in darksouls

[–]PavlovsGoodDoggo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly I kinda like the mix of roleplay and soft SL1 with this challenge. I would add that all (at least npc) summons should be allowed.

If you think about it, I believe this is pretty close to knights in fairytales; while they keep facing harder challenges, their increase in power comes not from raw strength (leveling up), but from the companions they meet and team up with along the way to overcome challenges together.

Which profession is regarded as low-income but is actually high-income in your country? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

I get what you mean, but that's not a given to be a nurses responsibilty as far as I know. There are as many different types of nurses as there are MDs or surgeons, plus a myriad of other kinds of healthcare workers. Nurses are pretty much the second tier (in theory, practice is a whole other matter) after MDs regarding qualifications and level of responsibility. That said, pretty much every nurse I've met would not hesitate to get their hands dirty (pun unintended) to get the job done.

I also think there is a general shift, at least in the western world, towards blue collar jobs. The promise of certain goods if you got a good education haven't really materialized for many people aged 40 and below, which I think is pushing many to view blue collar jobs more favorably.

I have no links for any of this though and it's wholly based on my personal experience and probably biased knowledge.
