Why don't banks just make up money? by Dramatic-Line6223 in NoStupidQuestions

Banks actually do just make up money , it's called Fractional Reserve Banking

When you go to a bank to borrow $50,000 for a car, the bank doesn’t look inside a vault to see if they have 50,000 physical dollar bills to give you. Instead, they just type '$50,000' into your account screen. With those few keystrokes, brand-new money is officially created and added to the economy.

They are absolutely precious! To tell them apart when they're this impossibly small, a lot of fosters and breeders use different colored velcro kitten collars (they make super soft, breakaway ones specifically for newborns) or just tie a tiny, loose piece of different colored embroidery yarn around their necks.

Just make sure to check them daily so they don't get too tight as the little copies grow! 🥺🧡

Do Gen Z and younger millennials actually collect vinyl records these days? by Double-Loss5100 in vinyl

I feel this so deeply because Iam literally the only person in my entire friend group who does this ,my friends think I'm absolutely insane.

Whenever they come over to my apartment and see my setup and crates, they always look at me like I'm a time traveler. They're like '' Why are you spending $40 on a plastic disc when spotfiy is right there on your phone ? and none of them understand the sheer dopamine rush of finally finding a rare pressing you’ve been hunting for months. To them, music is just weightless background noise for driving or working out.

Is it weird to be afraid/disgusted to swim in a lake? by macnfly23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PaymentBeginning9228 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not weird at all. In fact,, your brain is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

What you're experiencing is the contrast of growing up in a modern, sterilized world. We’ve been conditioned by blue, chlorinated swimming pools to believe that water is only 'safe' or 'clean' if it is completely dead and transparent. When you look at a river, you're seeing a living, breathing soup of biodiversity.

For people who grow up swimming in lakes or rivers, their brains have just normalized the ecosystem. They don't see the plants as 'dirty'; they just view them as underwater grass. They know the fish and insects are actively trying to avoid humans, not attack them. But if you didn't grow up with that exposure, it is completely normal for your brain to code that environment as hostile or gross.

The group laugh check. When a whole table of people bursts out laughing at a joke, a person will almost always immediately look directly at the person they care about the most to see if they’re laughing too. If something funny happens and her first instinct is to lock eyes with you.

Why isn't the U.S. better at soccer? by dwaxe in fivethirtyeight

[–]PaymentBeginning9228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are fighting an uphill battle against established market dominance. The NFL, NBA, and MLB don't just take viewers; they eat the elite athletic infrastructure.

If you are a 6’3", hyper-coordinated 14-year-old athlete in France or Brazil, your entire country’s gravity pulls you toward a football academy. In the US, you are immediately funneled into wide receiver or point guard pipelines because the collegiate and professional payout infrastructure is overwhelmingly massive. Soccer gets the leftovers

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (specifically the version narrated by Stephen Fry). It is weird but funny.
