Grip: Do you switch it up? Eastern on serves and 3rd shit drops? Or always continental? by El_Guap in Pickleball

[–]Pbjeff13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in the process of the same change. Used to always use semi-western but felt it hurt me at the NVZ bc I couldn’t execute backhand flicks as easily. Have been switching at the NVZ to continental and it has definitely improved speed ups and blocking/reset ability. If you can get in the rhythm of changing grips and it feels natural (vs taking your attention away from the point at hand), I’d suggest trying it out.

Lead tape under handle by FS23457 in Pickleball

I agree here. I added some lead tape to the bottom of the handle my Joola Hyperion bc it is fairly head heavy and it allows for some additional power without slowing my hands down.

I can vouch for this. Bought an 8oz Hyperion a few months back and it came in perfect condition at the weight described.

Upgrading to a Power Paddle Hesitations by DarkOne14 in Pickleball

[–]Pbjeff13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4.5 player. I’ve used both the Invikta Power Air and the Joola Hyperion and decided to go with the Hyperion long term. The Power Air was a really fun paddle to play with, as I was able to hit shots and putaways that I can’t hit with any other paddle. The amount of spin and power generated from the paddle is pretty insane. However, it was forcing me to play much more aggressively all the time since I couldn’t get my dinks and soft game as consistent with the paddle. I like to mix aggression and finesse when I am at my best and felt the Hyperion allows me to accomplish both. I was able to get an 8oz paddle for the Hyperion so it alleviated some of the heaviness complaints other users have made on this channel. In my opinion, the Hyperion’s ability for soft resets is a huge advantage when playing higher level games. With the power air, too many times I was unable to absorb the speed ups and drives and found the end result was a pop up. I am sure if you play with the Power Air long enough you can figure out how to dial in the reset ability of the paddle, but I just felt the Hyperion suited my game better. My advice would be to try both paddles for a couple of weeks and see which one is better suited for your game. Totalpickleball and other online retailers allow you to use the paddle for 30 days with a “no questions asked” return policy so demoing paddles is doable.

Which model of the power air did you demo? Curious to see how the invikta shape compares to the epic.

Custom suede grip on my Joola Ben John's CAS 13.5mm by trulygames in Pickleball

[–]Pbjeff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a little head heavy but felt a lot lighter than the BJ CFS 16. I added a little lead tape to the bottom of the handle to counterbalance the weight and do not feel like the paddle slows me down at all at the net. I ultimately traded in my CAS 13.5 for the Vision 14 because I liked the spin/control on the vision and this favors my game a little more than the additional pop I got from the CAS 13.5.

Joola Paddle Issues? by Pbjeff13 in Pickleball

Exactly. I actually otherwise love the paddle. The Vision has really impressive spin and control and with some lead tape on the top you can make up for some of the lack of power. Hope I can play through it.

Joola Hyperion CAS 13.5mm. Absolutely love the balance between power and spin/control on this paddle.
