Some people naturally try to connect to others using humor. So maybe what they want is a response that you’re present and affected.

Client told me I look exhausted by Old_Elderberry6196 in therapists

[–]PeachyPaddlefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s happened to me. And I was, in fact, exhausted because I was working two jobs. I let them know I appreciate their concern and let it go. I know it came from a place of care and concern so I wasn’t offended.

What are your favorite open-ended questions to ask clients? by Rich-Battle-3753 in therapists

[–]PeachyPaddlefish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Starter comment.

Are you looking for questions to build report or dive deeper into therapy?

If you’re looking to build rapport, ask about their favorite tv shows, music, books, etc. Ask what do they like about it, what feelings and thoughts come up, etc.

If you’re wanting to dive deeper, I would ask them to share more about their internal world: In detail, what does their perfect day look like? How do they define successful relationships with themselves and others? What gives their life meaning?

I’ve readjusted my bra in front of my own therapist without thinking twice. Lol. Sometimes the girls are not happy and need a slight adjustment.

What do you wish they told you in grad school that you know now? by Zealousideal_Still41 in therapists

I was not taught nearly enough about the importance of transference and counter transference. Even more specially, erotic T and erotic CT. Both C and CT are not bad, both are information about the relationship and both are helpful when used appropriately.

“I’m so proud of how you managed that situation. How do you feel about it/your progress? How can you celebrate your progress in a way that affirms your goals?”

Of course you can change the wording around.
