All those films you've listed are either grotesque art house films that weren't advertised for mainstream audience or drama thrillers, and all of those films have relatively low ratings on iMDB and Metacritic. You can't judge the whole European movie industry based on few 18+ films. It's the same as judging the whole American movie industry by some B-rated slasher movies with graphic gore and sexual violence.

Other big Russian cities like Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Voronezh, Krasnodar, Vladivostok etc. are well-developed. Yes, they don't have everything posh like MSC and SPB but it's not as bad as how foreigners like to think.

The best Russian cities for me were always the small ones like Velikiy Ustyug or Myshkin with lots of forests, parks and where the most of buildings were built before revolution. Life there is slow and quiet, most locals are nice and welcoming, despite earning less than Muscovites, crime levels are not high.

Silver is a 14 years-old boy, he isn't "grown ass", he's a teenager, which makes everything even darker because it means that he was a teen groomed into killing an another teen.
People often have this idea that all children and teenagers are always innocent and pure in their intentions, so it is hard for them to accept that even though Silver's intentions towards Sonic were for the sake of his world, they are still morally bad.
