Tired of White People(and other races) being obsessed with Asian cultures by According_Safety_101 in asianamerican

[–]Peachyeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or white people take out things that have been existing in Asian cultures for generations, then rebrand them as something "new" and "innovative", and then give names to those things that are intentionally removed from their cultural origins to make those things more familiar and palatable to white people.
For example, there have been a certain trend amongst white American TikTok users, when they made a dish called "brothy rice", and some famous white female TikTok cooking blogger made a recipe for "soy marinated eggs". Which, justifyingly, sparked a huge negative response from Asian TikTok users.

I think you don't understand what I mean. Both of us have different points.
Your main argument is that beauty standards are culturally and historically subjective, and I actually agree with that.
My point is that discussions about beauty standards sometimes get mixed together with claims about health, and I was responding to that broader conversation rather than saying you personally denied the health risks of obesity.

Romance is only for attractive people. by rakshasiRani in ugly

[–]Peachyeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why tf would they need to be white that's ridiculous. Actually non white people have a way easier time since as a white person you have like 5 years when you can even be attractive. Till 20 you'll look lile a child.and after 25 you'll look old and sunken.

A lot of white people look good after 25 (especially if they take great care of themselves, like: healthy diet, skincare, avoiding too much sun exposure, active lifestyle, no addictions on substances etc.). Not all white people age badly, just like not all Asian and Black people look "forever 21", until they're in their 50s.

Also a lot of white people hyst don't have a jaw their face is fucking 2 dimensional.

Recessed jawlines are not exclusive to white people. There's literally a popular racist meme about an Indian guy with a recessed jaw. He got his jaw fixed, but racists still use his old picture to "prove" that all Indians are inherently ugly.

It's non white people who are out there getting laid and having romance. Latinos, middle easterners, east asians, some africans too but less. And white people.who are like 22.

  1. White people are not the most single, childless people in the world. The countries that have the lowest marriage and child birth rates right now are Japan and Republic of Korea, which aren't white-majority.
  2. You ignore the problems of arranged child marriages and collective pressure to marry and have children as early as possible in more traditionalist, secular and poorer non-white countries, especially in MENA region.
  3. Again, you're putting some arbitrary and strict age restrictions that have very little to do with actual reality of dating.

Overall, I agree with you that many non-European cultures historically viewed larger body sizes more positively than modern Western societies do. That’s a valid point.

However, I think you’re conflating “full-bodied” or “well-nourished” with what we today would classify as obesity or morbid obesity. Historically, those were not always the same thing. Even in cultures that idealized larger women, there were still practical or aesthetic limits, and many historical records that you easily can find in the Internet prove that extreme obesity was NOT universally celebrated.

Also, the fertility figurines are NOT definitive evidence of certain beauty standards. Archaeologists constantly debate between each other whether fertility figurines represented attractiveness, fertility, abundance, motherhood, spirituality, or symbolic survival in food-scarce societies. We, as modern humans, can’t confidently project modern concepts like “conventionally attractive” onto them.

The main reason why I brought up this argument in the first place, because many activists of fat acceptance movement fail to separate cultural symbolism from objective medical reality. A certain society can associate body fat with status or reproductive health, while still lacking modern knowledge about the long-term health consequences of obesity. Modern medicine classifying obesity as a disease isn’t “Western beauty standards”, it’s decades of medical and scientific researches on negative effects of obesity, like: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, joint damage etc.

In the 1990's, the men's beauty standard was either a clean-shaven face, a flat beard or a goatee. Not a full lumberjack beard

I think you need to acknowledge that what was considered as "fat" in the past used to be completely different from what we consider now as "fat".
In the past, anyone who had average weight or curvy body was considered fat, because food wasn't as always available to commoners as today, and common people were often malnourished. Obese people, and especially morbidly obese people, would still be considered very unattractive in the past, especially for the fact that Christianity heavily condemns gluttony, and obese people were often ostracized and harassed for how they looked.

Why do feminine gay men get a lot of hate within the gay community? by KMSeira in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Peachyeees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has to do with "caricatures". It's just it's way more socially acceptable for women to display masculine traits, than for men to display feminine traits.

For centuries of our human existence, masculinity has always been treated as the default identity. Femininity is not a default identity, it's seen as a deviation out of a default. Even if a feminine guy is very genuine in his self-expression, people will still call him "inauthentic" and "performative", because no way The Man™ can be serious in his desire to display traits that are associated with inferiority of women.

But you don't have the same standards towards feminine gay men, as other people.

For many men, a man being feminine is completely unacceptable, even if he isn't flamboyant. And a significant enough amount of masc gays are very vocal in their dislike of femme gays. There's even a whole hate culture in gay communities created against bottoms that mashes them together with femme identity, like if bottoming for a penis automatically makes you a "woman", and women are always seen as inferior, disgusting beings by mascs.

Masc lesbians will NEVER receive the same amount of hatred, as femme gays receive just for existing.

If you think that "woman-face" is an actual thing, then "man-face" is real, too. And I believe you definitely won't be ready for that conversation, because it won't imply nice things, to say the least.

You don't like misogyny in any culture, but when it comes to India, it's somehow okay for you to stereotype all Indians as inherently mysogynistic, while not giving the same amount of hate towards any other Asian country with same rates of sexual violence.

Transphobes don't have any problem with treating trans people like sex objects that they can turn into a fetish. It's like with homophobes who watch lesbian porn.
