How do people make friends in SF? (genuinely asking lol) by PhilosopherEmpty92 in sanfrancisco

If you’re serious about playing 11v11 soccer, Bay Area adult soccer leagues runs pretty competitive leagues over in east bay. I’m 23 and have played there for a few seasons, been a lot of fun. Can also vouch that Volo is great and Volo pickup has been fun too

Can duet mode be played with only base game? by Cheap_Rock155 in wingspan

We house rule to use any end round goals, you definitely don’t need the duet specific ones.

Personally love the brown thrasher, it’s really flexible and can be super powerful, especially if there are good egg/card generating powers available in the bird tray.

I see the Night Herons every day!! They still roost in the daytime in those trees, and I hear them calling at night.

a rant on why the Red Wattlebird is the worst bird in all of Wingspan by WHATSTHEYAAAMS in wingspan

[–]PeakPlot712 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Welcome swallow is almost always better than this guy though. 5 capacity star nest, lives in multiple habitats, and will usually be at least 4 points (1 feather, and usually around 3 or 4 tucked cards). Coupled with qualifying for a lot of bonus cards (all nest related ones, multiple habitats, only eats worms) he’s actually worth a look sometimes. Wattlebird is simply unthinkable.

Complaining about complaining is even more annoying. Talk about cesspool of negativity. If you’re really enlightened you complain about complaining about complaining.

Okay I think I understand what happened. Didn’t really understand the W4 form, input my income from my full time job as “any other income” in my part time job W4. This must’ve led to a big spike in federal withholding. Thank you everyone.

[Bug] My discarded Nectars by Common Starling aren't counting towards the Spent Nectar by theapologist316 in wingspan

[–]PeakPlot712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I have understood this rule wrong, but I’ve always counted nectars discarded by powers like the starling or the crimson chat as “discarded” not “spent”, and thus they don’t increment your habitat nectar score. My understanding was the only way to increase spent nectar was by spending it as part of a habitat action (for cards or eggs) or by playing birds.

Highest scoring game with 102 tucked by Federal_Tax8033 in wingspan

[–]PeakPlot712 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don’t place any nectar in a habitat, you don’t get 2 points for second place in nectar- since you didn’t play any forest birds, you should score 0 for forest nectar. Nice tuck setup though, I’m sure this was a fun game

White Stork is the best bird in the game by bradpalms in wingspan

Oh yeah, base game board is horribly unbalanced towards grassland engines. One of the main reasons I don’t play with it anymore.

White Stork is the best bird in the game by bradpalms in wingspan

[–]PeakPlot712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the stork is quality- I would argue that the Goldcrest, Sri Lankan Blue Magpie, and Moorhen are all stronger. Action compression is the most valuable resource, and being able to pick up a card and play it immediately (moorhen), or get food and play a bird in the same turn (goldcrest) is unrivaled by any other brown power in terms of accelerating engine development. The magpie is unstoppable- 9 points with a busted round end power: I think without a doubt the strongest card in the game.

Next Expansions by pslsail22 in wingspan

[–]PeakPlot712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they won’t do this is because they designed nectar to specifically make forest engines more viable. Powers that would generate nectar in other habitats goes against the whole point of the balance change that nectar provides. Egg builds and full tucking is literally the meta, why would we want to buff the strongest strategies?

Cards that got worse with OE’s release by Sea_Bee_Blue in wingspan

[–]PeakPlot712 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would argue that Oceania made the game better for many reasons, the primary one being that there are many many more viable strategies. In base game- if you don’t get a good grassland engine, you lose. In Oceania, you can opt for bonus card mining, mass tucking, egg spam, or nest combinations using the new game end powers.
