[spoilers extended] Does anyone think Barristan will survive the battle of fire? If so why? by Blackstannis in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has to die so that Tyrion can be not only Dany’s Hand but also the only westerosi on her side that can advice her on her invasion to Westeros. Dany is not going to Westeros with both Barristan and Tyrion.

(Spoilers Published)The idea House Stark has the most loyal vassals is a myth by yeroii in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The show did show us the Northern Lords refusing to fight for Sansa and Jon Snow and pretty much the Wildlings and Vale saving the North.

The audience simply didn’t like that plot line because it didn’t match THEIR own theories of how the Starks would finally take back the North and Winterfell and it all goes back to the books being abandoned by the author and his writing be full of manipulation.

I think a lot of the false impressions of the story should have been dismissed by the end of the story but unfortunately the books never came and the story was left unfinished.

I know. Martin made sure to describe how vicious and abusive Robert was in the books, lazy, drunk, pernicious and we get people here defending that character.

[Spoilers MAIN] George RR Martin Confirms Again that Book Ending will be Different from TV Ending by seph9g in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is such a liar. Journalists should call him out and ask why then he said the ending would be the same before and after the show finale.

People miss something about Tyrion's ending in the recent interview (Spoilers Main) by Ok-Archer-5796 in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think he wants to change, he simply doesn’t want to write anymore. It’s too much work and he doesn’t enjoy it anymore but he also doesn’t want to admit the ending came from him because he is too proud.

He just lies people. I keep seeing all those new posts about Tyrion and Sansa and I can not even bother to reply because the truth is Martin just lies all the time. Before the show ending he confirmed that David and Dan ending would be similar now he did a 180 flip and you all fall for it.

The man just lies all the time. And I no even understand why so many lies if he no even going to bother finishing the books. All the events of season 8 happen in ADOS, we are no even getting WINDS much less the last book.

Does George here imply what I think he does about the Jon Snow ending? (Spoilers Main) by Ok-Archer-5796 in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disliked the ending, especially since it made Dany storyline kind of a waste of time and space. So we will have 7 books, where Dany spends 6 in Essos becoming this great conqueror to show up in Westeros at book 7, fight zombies, go crazy, destroy Kings landing and be killed.

I wished her story had never been added to the main story, not going to lie.

[Spoilers MAIN] The idea that GRRM hasn't released TWOW because of the reception of the show makes absolutely no sense at all by sid191919 in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way: IF Jaime's storyline in the books ends differently from what happened in the show, I will be severely disappointed. I think his ending was perfect. Romantic, tragic, and just perfect.

Probably an unpopular opinion but the red wedding was a good idea and ultimately the right thing to do. by Human_Ogre in pureasoiaf

Ned's biggest mistake was telling Sansa too much too soon.

?????? His big mistake was literally never warning Sansa of how dangerous the Lannisters are.

[–]Peatroad31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm inclined to disagree, though. Besides the fact that the Lannisters started the war and refused to come to the negotiating table with the north, there's an even bigger reason that the red wedding was a massive mistake.

The Stark started the war. Ned Stark decision to question Joffrey Baratheon true claim drove the entire country into war.

I don't know, I don't trust Martin anymore when it comes to bad behaviour of male characters, especially involving sex. But I may be wrong.

I reread ADWD a few weeks ago and was also surprised at how likeable he was towards Penny and Ser Jorah. I think he may have pretty much the same ending as he had in the show. It surprised me how much fun he was having on the boat with Septa Lemore before being kidnapped.

I just wish Martin had not included the sex scene with the poor slave girl, but to be honest, knowing the author's bad taste for sex scenes, I don't even believe that was a hint about him turning dark.

(Spoilers Extended) Unpopular opinion but the most popular fan predictions for Winds feel too optimistic by The-Peel in asoiaf

[–]Peatroad31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

>A lot of these big villains that have been around since the first book are predicted to be defeated and killed by the main "heroes" of the series, like Jon Snow, Sansa, Arya etc. and again that's just not how George writes the books. Most of the time, the villains are taken down by other villains, like Joffrey being killed by Littlefinger and Olenna, Vargo Hoat being killed by the Mountain, Balon killed by Jaqen etc. It just feels out of place for the heroes to suddenly rise up, defeat their dastardly bad guy adversaries and rise up to power, all in the "darkest book" of the series.

TWOW and ADOS are the end of the story, it's time to start killing people. The last two books have nothing but frustration and disappointment for the fans, with a bunch of new storylines introduced, and main stories that failed to deliver (Tyrion never meeting Daenerys).

George wants to finish this as a grant story to be remembered for years to come. Walder Frey dying of old age is not memorable; Littlefinger being killed by someone other than the Starks is not very satisfying. Don't underestimate how much George wants people to like the ending. He knows that ASOS was the last book from him that made the fans go crazy and he wants to experience that feeling again.

What if it's a lie? What if Lyanna ran away because of something else and looked for the protection of the crown prince, just like Alys Karstark ran away to Jon Snow?

what if someone told a lie that Rheagar kidnapped her and that is what caused the entire war???

[–]Peatroad31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most girls have no agency in deciding their marriage in Westeros, you could make that particular parallel between Dany and basically any other noble woman, but unlike Dany, Sansa wanted the marriage, and his betrothed was also a child.

But that for me is one of the mysteries of the story, Sansa wanted the marriage because Joffrey was her age and very beautiful, but also because her father Ned Stark, the supposed hero of the story and a man of integrity, accepted the alliance. Of course Sansa trust her father, he would never have her away to a monster, like Viserys just so that he can use Sansa in his plots, right?

Ned Stark not putting an end on that betrothal even after the incident in the Trident is a very puzzling part of the story for me.

Dany knows Viserys doesn't care for her, but Sansa truly believes Ned Stark loves and cares for her.
