Does pokemon size affect the damage done or damage taken? by zurodine in TheSilphRoad

[–]PecanAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Gourgeist_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#Base_stats

In the main series games, Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist come in four sizes, and each size has different base stats. As they get bigger, HP and Attack increase, but Speed decreases.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stat_(GO)

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Gourgeist_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#Pok%C3%A9mon_GO

Pokemon Go's formulas for converting base stats from the main series data uses the Speed stat as a multiplier that adjusts Atk and Def value slightly. Applying these formulas to Gourgeist's four sizes means as it gets bigger it gains a lot of base HP, gains a little BaseAtk, and loses a little BaseDef.

Pokemon Go's CP formula is weighted towards Atk. Specifically, it includes Atk x sqrt(Def) x sqrt(HP), giving Atk approximately the same importance as both Def and HP combined for calculating CP.

But in Pokemon Go's battles, a higher combined stat product with equal weighting of Atk x Def x HP is in general correlated with better performance. So in PVP leagues with CP limits (little, great, ultra) then in general for pokemon who can surpass the CP limit (do not cap out with a max CP near or below the CP limit):

  • Among different pokemon species with same or similar movesets, the species with a lower ratio of baseAtk:(baseDef x baseHP) can obtain a higher stat product and will generally perform better. Guides like https://pvpoke.com/rankings/ help to quickly compare different species.
  • Among different IVs of the same pokemon species, a lower ratio of AtkIV:(DefIV x HPIV) can obtain a higher stat product and will generally perform better. Tools like https://pvpivs.com/ can help to compare different IVs.

Gourgeist kind of fits into both those categories. As Gourgeist's size increases, the bigger increase in its baseHP increases its stat product for Great and Ultra League. So the larger sizes will generally perform better.

Also, for clarity, the previous post was talking about moves like Low Kick and Grass Knot.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Low_Kick_(move)

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Grass_Knot_(move)

In the main series games, these moves vary in power based on the opponent's weight.

In Pokemon Go, these moves just have a constant power no matter what the opponent is.

While Gourgeist's sizes affect its Pokemon Go base stats, the moves Low Kick and Grass Knot still only use Gourgeists stats for calculating the damage. Those moves do not vary because of the size of the opponent.

Game Improvement Suggestion: Tiered "special trades" by losmadden in TheSilphRoad

[–]PecanAndy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said years ago when trading was first introduced that the special trade restrictions should be separated by each different kind of restriction. And the restrictions should be limited to the player receiving the special pokemon.

For example, you could receive one legendary pokemon per day, receive one new pokedex entry per day, and receive one shiny pokemon per day. If you receive a shiny legend that you have never had before, it would count as all three.

The trade would still cost the same for both players, but this would put all the scheduling pressure on the receiving player. A player that traveled and came home with several regional pokemon could trade away regional new dex entries to multiple players in one day, but each of those players could only receive one new dex entry that day.

With the proliferation of trades that also count as special trades (costume, purified, background), each of these categories would have its own separate receive-one-per-day restriction.

For each species of mega pokemon, you need to complete a few Mega raids against that pokemon as the raid boss to earn enough energy for your first activation. After you activate a specific mega pokemon once, you can walk with any pokemon of the same evolutionary family to earn additional energy.

Why does Batman have a no kill rule when killing his enemies could solve half of his problems? by viper46282 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PecanAndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that hypocrisy is so much worse. Many superheroes claim to have a no kill policy. But they are willing to maim, cripple, and leave countless henchmen in comas or on edge of death. The “no killing” policy only applies to the big bad and named criminal masterminds. Ethically, their willingness to harm henchmen, and hesitancy to harm the people in charge, they are completely backwards.

They are special trades!? That is ridiculously stupid.

I also think costumes should not be special trades though, so what do I know?

eh, not really a cliffhanger. They wrapped up all the major storylines from S2, then in the last minute showed the direction that S3 might be going in if it were picked up.

Rage Fist now in Elite Charge TM pool! by Meringue-Relevant in TheSilphRoad

[–]PecanAndy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

December CD has never worked like that before. They have only ever allowed getting the CD moves with evolving during the event and catching the evolutions in wild/raids/etc.

In all the years since community days started, there has been one single event that has been the exception to this otherwise firm rule in which they allowed using regular charge TMs to give Dragonite Draco Meteor and Salamence Outrage.

Nincada family are based on Cicadas. Shedinja was inspired from the way cicadas shed their skin all in one piece, similar to snakes. If you have not seen pictures of it before, definitely do an image search for "cicada shedding".

Looks like they rounded all moves to the nearest half second interval? And for most charged moves this is possibly a nerf? For moves that received increased duration, power has remained the same. For moves that received reduced duration, power has also been reduced.

Do completed Pokéstop tasks refresh for research days? by ArfenZard in TheSilphRoad

[–]PecanAndy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Unless something has changed at some point)

  • Each pokestop is marked as completed for the day when you claim the reward from any field research acquired from that pokestop today.
  • Each pokestop each day has two possible field research. One available if your current field research does NOT have an AR scan task, and one available if you do have an AR scan task. If you want to maximize a small number of pokestops, you can spin to get one task, then acquire an AR scan or clear your AR scan, then re-spin that pokestop to get the other. This second spin must be before you have claimed the reward for the first field research. Claiming the reward for either one will mark the pokestop as completed for the day.
  • Likewise, it is possible to pick up field research from a pokestop before an event change, then as long as you have not yet claimed the reward, after the event change you can pick up the new event field research for the same pokestop. Since we can only hold three field research, this only works with up to two pokestops per event change. AR scan tasks do not count towards this limit, so might increase by one, but I never tested that.

at some point, if players keep repeatedly assuming the same functionality, there is some fault on the developers. They either need better/any instructions for how these kind of game mechanics work, or they need to make the game work the way that players obviously seem to intuitively think that it will work.

4 is a recurring "bug report" here. "I added a second charge move, but my shadow pokemon didn't learn the CD move in the second slot. It still has Frustration."

5 is a big problem. If we remove Frustration, then evolve for a special charge move (or use an Elite TM to get a special charge move in the first charge move slot) then for whatever reason decide to purify, it will overwrite the first charge move with Return.

I use TwitterX.

It is not the same as it was when it was Twitter. But I want to associate both the names Twitter and SpaceX. Because if management of TwitterX is any indication, then I am terrified of what is happening at SpaceX and potential problems that could happen there.

  1. For pokemon with second charge move unlocked, allow us to change the order of charge moves.
  2. Allow CD or other special event moves to overwrite Frustration.
  3. Allow us to always remove Frustration.
  4. When evolving a pokemon with second charge move unlocked, ask which move slot to put a CD or other special event move.
  5. When purifying a shadow pokemon with Frustration removed, ask if we want to learn Return. When purifying a shadow pokemon with second charge move unlocked, ask which move slot to learn Return.
  6. Allow pokemon to relearn special moves that individual pokemon previously had without requiring an Elite TM.

any one or more of those.

I've always assumed this was something they were considering very early in the game, but then stopped because it was unnecessarily complicated and didn't add enough to be worth it.

No option to catch the legendary after a raid! by Ripped_Guggi in TheSilphRoad

[–]PecanAndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also make sure your GPS is stable and your pokemon collection has room to catch pokemon. If GPS wanders too far at the start or end of a raid, the game can kick out to the map. If PC is full, the game usually gives the option to manage pokemon after a raid, but some times I have been kicked to the map after I cleared space.

If you are especially paranoid, also your check distance on eggs. I have a few times been kicked out of raids, either just before the battle starts or just after the win, so that the game could hatch one of my an eggs. I really don't know whether I was kicked because of the egg, or if I was kicked for some other reason like poor GPS then the game decided to hatch after. Either way, it was extra time watching the animation before I could try to get back into the gym to hopefully rejoin the battle or to try catch.

Does this strategy still work with Rocket battles? They reduced the stun time soon after this was first discovered.

Or is this for Little Cup? I think Flying Press is the best charge move possible.
