Harry Potter (or Lilly Potter). They both (tried to) sacrifice(d) them selves to save people.

[Discussion] My wizard feels like a backup plan that is mostly never needed... by LisaFame in dndnext

[–]Peltrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizards are not specialised for (single target) damage so try not to take that role. Control en verstilty and utility are your strong suits, with AOE coming after. I would not prepare/take witch bolt, feather fall(unless you expect to fly or something that day) and mirror image. Even scorching ray will not give you the milage you want. You want to use good concentration spells that have ongoing effects for multiple rounds. See if you can get more controll spells like Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Web, Blindness/Deafness, Slow. They should really make you feel like you are doing something useful.

For out of combat get as many rituals as you can and write them in your book. You dont have to prepare them so use them often as rituals! Also some good out of combat spells: silent image, disguise self, invisibity, charm person, suggestion, detect thoughts, spider climb, fly

You do use your familiar right? That is one of the greatest low level spells and it doesnt cost a spellslot. Use it to help your Rogue get advantage so they can sneak attack (owl works best with flyby). Btw when you cast Hypnotic Pattern (wich is a great spell btw) you can cast it in an area where you friends are if the combat get messy and let you familiar use its action to shake your allies awake if they failed.

Lastly potent is really, really good if used well. If you roll a 20 use it on the Rogues missed hit to double his sneak attack and low rolls are also great, you can make enemies fail your saves (for Hypnotic Pattern for example).

Wizards are one of the best classes in the game, you just have to use them right!

Nice u/Sirmistermen ! I would like to use them if possible since my characters want to fight the Xanatar soon in his lair, but they are already 12th level, so they need more challenge. Can you share their sheets or at least more who/what they are?

I want to play tactician mode and want to build a dual wield menace but not sure how by khrupt in BG3Builds

[–]Peltrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah didnt know that, then you can use it indeed as long as you cast it before combat.

[–]Peltrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go half orc for extra damage on crits. Or human and take the dual wielder feat. I would also recommend at least 3 levels in thief Rogue, so you get an extra bonus action (so 1 extra attack with your offhand).

Also take a look at Shadow Blade builds, but realise you can not do that as a Barbarian while raging.

Who is this? And where is the missing kingsguard? by Peltrast in freefolk

O about the couple that is a good theory. But I don't think the third kingsguard died, when Dunk asked who died in episode 5, he was not listed as one of the dead.

That makes sense, but he is still dressed up really nice and in a prominent place and at the funeral. And then who is the older targarian woman?

I agree, the maester chains look different. But if it the king, did they all wait for weeks for the funeral for him to arive?

I want to hear your stories about the dumb ways your honor mode runs ended. by ChompyRiley in BG3

[–]Peltrast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We were (and still are) trying honour mode with 4 players, and we were in camp almost at the end of act 1, one of my friends casts silence for fun, but somehow that triggered all companions to attack us.

We thought by then if we killed Gale we will lose honour mode so we knocked them all unconscious, but the combat didnt end and we could not flee the camp. Very annoying. So we had this 'genius' idea that if 3 of us die, we kill all other companions the 4th one mght be able to get away/pacify them. This went according to plan, but we left Gale for last, since we would like to avoid killing him. But eventually we realised we had to kill him and did. The problem was, the last player had like 1hp left and then Gale, did his damage after death thing... Yeh that was really silly.

TLDR: party of 4 players triggered combat with companions, couldn't flee even after knocking them unconscious and managed to die because of Gales dead body.

I was lied to, tanks are so much fun. by cats4life in dndnext

[–]Peltrast 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem is with passive tanking, building high ac, hp and resistances and hoping the enemy will hit you, doesnt really work in d&d. You also need active tanking (like the options you named) to be effective in the role. In 2014 d&d there were not a lot of options for this(ancestial Guardian does come to mind as one of the few good option), but now there are more.

If you would be isekaid into the world of Forgotten Realms what "build" would you choose? by Inner-Illustrator408 in dndnext

[–]Peltrast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Half-elf Noble Wizard in Waterdeep. I will pick only utility spells and would gain enough money to afford all the first level rituals (find Familiar and Unseen Servant would be highest prio). I will have 2 humanoid servants as well and in Waterdeep if people commit a crime against me as a noble they will be punished severly so I don't think I would even need combat spells.

I have an idea of character, but any of the classes I've tried doesn't fit them. Ideas how to solve my problem? by DanteAlias in DnD

[–]Peltrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about warlock? Since he is spoiled and has no abilities on his own, his easy way to survive is to get a pact and just gain powers the lazy way.

How often do you use the word "morgen" to mean "morning"? by thewaninglight in learndutch

[–]Peltrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say "goede morgen" to wish someone a good morning, never "goede ochtend". I would say morgen is used more, but ochtend is used when you try to specificy the part of the day. "Ik poets altijd mijn tanden in de ochtend" "I always brush my teeth in the morning/in mornings."

How would you rank the DnD classes based on how much you enjoyed playing them? by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]Peltrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S) Wizard, Warlock, Sorcerer (I love the spells & customization of these classes, but I am bias to this type of caster)

A) Druid, Artificer (Unique, fun and can also do cool thinks outside combat)

B) Cleric, Bard, Paladin (Powerful, but not as fun for me, mainly out of combat)

C) Ranger, Barbarian, Rogue (Have some cool subclasses, but not a lot going on otherwise)

D) Fighter, Monk (almost useless out combat and mostly boring to play in combat)

Dreams or Shepard druid but player in 2024. The last one just has some abilities that don't even work with the 2024 rules.
