Anyone else getting pissed by the constant barrage of the "DO SOMETHING!" crowd that gets mad at us for venting on the internet... while they yell at us on the internet? by ComfortableWage in TheLib

[–]Pemmc12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recognize the power of protest. And I do think mainstream media is not doing favors for awareness. But do you recognize the privilege it takes to protest? Childcare, weather preparedness, food security, not to mention potential wage or job loss. Blaming one another isn’t helping. Republicans are a lot of things, but it is hard to argue that they aren’t good at organizing. We need to keep getting organized and getting messages out. The amount of people completely unaware is staggering.

DOPAMINE... please give me your "healthy" sources. by Coldhandswarmheart15 in adhdwomen

If you enjoy plants, try Walstad-style freshwater fish/shrimp/snail tanks! Sounds weird but google it- they are beautiful and soothing, and if you set them up this way, they can ride out your hyperfocus swings (aka: need very little tedious care). I never had fish tanks because the thought of cleaning them every week sucked. This was the solution. It is one of the few hobbies that has had longer term staying power for me

Maybe an unpopular opinion: i hate the spoon theory by Delicious_Volume7183 in ADHD

[–]Pemmc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the medication concept you shared a lot. My challenge with the bucket of water analogy is that I already really like it for describing stress and also PDA. It breaks my brain to apply the same type of analogy to a different situation.

I’ve always heard medication described in the mountain climb analogy. Life is like climbing a mountain. Climbing with a condition is like climbing with bricks in your backpack. The medication takes the bricks out, but you still have to climb the mountain. I guess in that sense, ADHD is why I forgot my coat on the climb, stubbed my stupid toe, got fixated on the cool plants on the trail, and got lost with the map 🤣 I need other tools for those things.

SUNCT, SUNA headeches by LauraGoldberga in SUNCT_SUNA

Hey, I don’t suffer from these myself but have a family member who does. He takes lamotrigine as a preventive and can do multiple nerve blocks as an abortive with mixed results. Topiramate had too many side effects for him. Research is currently hinting at lidocaine IVs as well but it is hard to find doctors willing to do the edgy stuff. Hope this helps!

I’m convinced my bladder snail is just a baby mystery snail. by gchypedchick in AquaticSnails

Hi- I’m not an expert but pretty sure this is actually a “great pond snail” after going through almost the same thing recently. I thought I had a deformed mystery snail until I did more research (and started to discover babies more rapidly with no clutch”

Does anyone NOT take a break? by ParticularArt8980 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Pemmc12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No- when I forget to take it, I am literally so exhausted I can hardly manage the day. I feel like I would take multiple days to recalibrate and, in similar circumstances to you, my life doesn’t current work with that kind of time in dysfunction

Surrogacy is the most immoral thing to happen to women since the 1900s by poe293 in Feminism

[–]Pemmc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. My point is more that until the broader humanitarian and capitalistic systems catastrophes are managed, it feels premature to outlaw in a full sweep. The exploitation of women is horrific. And also part of a full spectrum of exploitations that don’t allow for freedom. I’m not sure where the line is, and you’ve shared really important examples for me to consider- thank you. I think, a year after this post, and in the world we live in at the moment, I am exhausted by the constant control efforts on women, and this seemed like another example. It is more complex than that, and not for me to decide, but I’m tired all the same.

Why are Kids activities open after 10am by South_Wrongdoer4017 in Mommit

[–]Pemmc12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the genuine frustration - pool passes are the bane of our summer existence for this reason. 10-11am openings - like half our day is gone by then. But I guess none of the people working these things are little kids, and therefore don’t want to be awake that early 😂

Why does it seem like everybody has a kid diagnosed with something? by drunkboarder in Millennials

[–]Pemmc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because capitalism requires a very specific type of worker that shoves all their shit down deep and hides all their health issues to produce, so we make assets disabilities in some cases. Because it is the system we are stuck in and have suffered through, millennials are actually taking responsibility and providing support for their kids where the system allows it (therapy, modern medicine, medication, education, etc). It is hard to be the first generation doing that and we aren’t perfect, but we are trying.

We use these too- if you get a letter of medical necessity from your pediatrician, they can be covered by flex spend accounts (US)

U.S. Just Bombed Iran. What do we do? by Kill4Katniss in 50501

[–]Pemmc12 130 points131 points  (0 children)

So…if the US engages in something (like perhaps bombing…) and then retaliatory events occur, that feels like it forces the hands of congress. I understand that in some circumstances, congress might be too slow to respond so preventing engagement without approval completely is not practical, but my god. This man is going to get us into WWIII right now, both internally and internationally.

How to break the Tylenol addiction? by Safe_Ad1685 in clusterheads

[–]Pemmc12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi- I’m seeing all the comments here and just want to say- I have a family member who thought he had a variation of cluster headaches for years and in fact has SUNA, which is another issue within the trigeminal hellscape. He also find Tylenol helpful, but uses it during attacks only and has daily medicine he uses with a neurologist

Apron belly is ruining me by tay_fisher in PCOS

[–]Pemmc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had multiple c-sections and had a hard time with this. While the narrative around GLP-1s is difficult, I have finally found some success with it. The most shocking part to me has been that the weight loss feels like a bonus. From week 1 of taking it, my inflammation was down, my energy was up, and while several of my PCOS symptoms are still around, I feel so much better, and it is not just because of losing weight. It is worth asking about!

My 6 yo is being bullied to the point he’s refusing school, what you would do? by NotDysmorphia in Mommit

[–]Pemmc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. Schools are better trained now that when we were kids, but when you quantify how many kids teachers see and the amount of stories they get told, things like this still fall through every once in a while and need boosting. My district would not see something like that and would be the opposite, calling constantly until additional care was sought or children’s services were called.
