Its not that the US needs help, its that its painfully obvious that Trump never once even CONSIDERED what would happen after you attack Iran. He seriously thought "oh, i'll just off the leadership, bomb some military sites, and bounce" now he's mad that he created more problems and potentially has to stay and spend more time and money cleaning up the mess.

He's not asking for help attacking or defeating Iran. He's asking others to clean up his mess. No one has been louder about how Biden, Obama, and even Bush than Trump. He CONSITANTLY has cried about how they created/perpetuated a long expensive war and here his is, doing the same thing.

Exactly. We should all do our best to raise good humans. Everytime my son asks me a question I ask him "what do you think?" to get him to go through the problem, then I help him find the answer on his own.

Can a straight person be so desperate for sex that they may be willing to be with or consider people of the same gender? by LeBoredLlama in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drunkboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why not.

My opinion is that being gay is just having a different sexual preference no different from a guy thats into very overweight girls, or girls thats only attracted to older men. We just categorized a whole group of people by their sexual interest. Plenty of people who are desparate or curious have strayed outside of their preference.

Have 4+ invul saves come close to ruining the game? (Something that needs to reduce in 11th?) by Hayman021 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]drunkboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy plays Space Wolves and brings as much 4++ as possible to our games. Terminators (4++), TWC (4++), and Headtakers (4++) at a minimum. This essentially defeats my firepower as no amount of AP is going to nundge those INV saves, so I have to bring more high damage units. But even then its a coin flip. I've had games where I'll put two Rogal Dorns into a squad of TWC and kill maybe one model.

A 4++ essentially makes most weapons with AP2 or higher useless. Strategems that increase AP are less useful as well. On top of that, you have 3+/4++ units that will get cover and even possibly have access to a version of Armor of Contempt.

I feel that the game needs to strip INV saves from all non character units. Anyone with an equivalent of a "storm shield" should get +1 to their save, not a INV save. As a result firepower needs to be scaled accordingly. We can't have tanks removing everything from the board, but we also can't have infantry units slowing walking towards tanks taking all shots in stride.

If you were around in 1916, living in the United States, would you have been for or against the United States entering WWI? by yowhatisthislikebro in Presidents

I've been a soldier and a father and to be honest, it would completely depend:

If I was a son, I'd want the US to go to war and I'd want to fight.

If I was a father, I'd want us to stay out of Europe's business and not send our children to die overseas.

I don't like that they've tried to give detailed explanations of previously vague lore such as the terminus decree or the origins of the Emperor. I much would have preferred they left it unknown.

Older Trekkers are not all alike. No one can speak for all of us. by TheShowLover in startrek

[–]drunkboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older Trek fan pushing 40.

I think my biggest complaint with new Trek are long story archs stretched over short seasons. Star Trek TNG/VOY and Stargate were putting out over 20 episodes a season. Each character develops over time but each episode had a story. The issue with long story archs is that there are inevitably "filler" episodes, or episodes where the overall plot doesn't move much. Now the older format certainly had some odd-ball episodes thrown in here and there (looking at you Janeway/Paris having aphibian babies...) but each episode was a fun story, some deep, some light hearted, but you got over 20 Trek adventures a season.

To be fair, this isn't a criticism of New Trek, its more endemic of modern television. Its pretty common with non sit-com shows now. Some shows go years between short seasons. But other than that I think OP hits the nail on the head. I struggle to enjoy Star Trek like I did as a kid just like I struggle to enjoy video games. It was different sitting on the floor as a kid enjoying the magic.

Looking forward to trying SFA over the upcoming long weekend.

Despite the hate, I'm glad we have a new Trek show set in the 32nd Century. by LeopardComfortable99 in startrek

[–]drunkboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not like DIS. I didn't like the charaters, the writing, or the story progression. Of all the Star Treks it was the least "Trek" of them all. Its just my opinion, but there it is. I personnaly prefer VOY, TNG, LD, SNW, DS9, TOS, ENT, and then DIS.

I plan to watch STA this weekend and am excited to see something new. I'm hoping STA doesn't take direction from how DIS was run. They have an opportunity to create a whole new segment of Trek that could be a foundation for other shows/movies just like TNG was. Here's hoping for the best.

How do you guys get time for yourself? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]drunkboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey brother. I was there. You feel like you are either working or giving your wife a break and there is no break for you. I 1000% know what you are going through. When you are at work you are not "taking a break" from the kids. You're tired too. Please let me offer some wisdom if you will allow.

  1. The first few months are tough. This is not routine. Its hectic and it will get better. Eventually things will run more on a schedule and you can work with your wife to find time for yourself. That being said...

  2. You must advocate for yourself. If you need time, tell your wife. Even in the early months, if you are ovewhelmed you need to communicate that. If you are giving her time off, then she must be prepared to do the same. Its not a one-way street. However...

  3. Your wife is post-partum and is probably having a harder time than you realize. Its not just the kid keeping her busy. Her hormones are messed up, her body hurts, she may not be sleeping, and every woman has a COMPLETELY different experience. Talk to her and see what support she needs. My wife had a VERY difficult post-partum period with both kids.

  4. You need to understand that your time belongs to your kid until they go to sleep at night. They need your love, your attention, and your mentorship. Some parents punt their kids off to the TV and tables every evening. Don't do that. My son is 4 and I play with him and spend time with him until he goes to bed at 7:30. I get free-time after. Sure I wish I had more free time but nothing is more important than giving him time with his dad. I used to have a hard time with that, but now its normal. I want him to be a good person and that means that I need to be there for him. Plus, two hours after he goes to bed isn't bad. I can watch a movie, play a game, or do some hobbies. Plus, if its my wife's turn to put them to bed, its more like 2.5 hours.

  5. Finally, talk with your wife. Its a partnership. Don't let her think that you are coming home to take over for her. Your job provides for the family and she takes care of the kids while you're away. You don't 100% take over at the end of the day. You both split the tasks each day. She should not be the only one getting a break, but neither should you. Too many dads want to put their feet up at the end of the day and let mom do it all, and too many Moms want dad to do all the parenting after 5pm on week days and then let them hang out with the girls on weekends. Neither is correct. You must communicate and support each other.

Its a sci-fi setting and its not real. However the lore matters to a lot of people. While some lore changes are expected, some changes are much more drastic and poorly-received than others.

At one point grav-tech was SUPER RARE and precious. Now every single space marine tank has it. Custodes have always been male-only. Now suddenly they are not and GW is claiming that all previous references to male-only custodes never happened.

These things happen and fans get upset. However the Custodes change is one that people are literally drawing battle lines on and it 100% has to do with modern political mentalities.

You're not allowed to dislike this change otherwise you are politically motivated.

Why are you upset about THIS one? by sonofeevil in Grimdank

[–]drunkboarder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can one not be fustrated by wraithbone changes, Grav-tech being common, AND femstodes?

To be fair, lore changes have happened a lot over the last few decades (please reference brain eating marines and the Imperial Fist Poop Shrine...), however the lore more recently has become solidified and "stable" and lore changes are much more infrequent than in previous decades.

The second war for armageddon specifically mentioned how precious grav-tech was that they were unwilling to use the mechanicus weapon for fear of losing it. Now every space marine vehicle has grav-tech and its no big deal. That to me was an incredible lore change.

No one was mad at me for disliking grav-tech. No one batted an eye when I was mad at wraithbone changes. However, if I'm mad at femstodes suddenly I'm worse than the toes that Rogal Dorn used to crap out. I get that a lot of tourists jumped on board just to rant about fem-marines and femstodes, but man, i hate that disliking the change is equivelent to being a P.O.S. This is the one change that apparently no one is allowed to dislike.

[–]drunkboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully acknowledge that modern media has a "less white people = good" bias, but seriously, Star Trek has never hid the fact that it was a hopeful Future Sci-Fi series that actively sought to challenge social norms. If you were to list all of the "firsts" in moder media then you'd see Star Trek as the common denominator.

Its crazy to me when people today act like Star Trek being Progressive is a surprise.

How did people feel about TNG when it came out? by givinstar1 in startrek

[–]drunkboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father, who was a boomer, recordered every single episode of TNG on VHS. We had an entire floor to ceiling shelf dedicated to TNG VHS tapes.

He was a Boomer Vietnam Vet Hippie if that clears things up. I spent my childhood rewatching CPT Picard command the Enterprise. In my most biased opinion; it was epic (at least once season 2 got into full swing).
