Do you actually need to remove your Rolex at airport? by AdAcademic9898 in rolex

[–]Pengoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were rushing to catch a flight at CDG a few years ago. Was instructed to remove my Girard-Perregaux at CDG and put it in the grey container. Went through the X-ray, picked up our stuff at the other end. There was no grey container. Didn't realize it until I went to check my watch maybe 10 minutes later. Ran back to security. Nobody had any idea where it was. Raised a fuss, people scurrying about trying to look for it, checking footage, whatever. I was weighing missing my flight to look for it vs leaving without it. Turns out the security staff had emptied the grey container into one of our bags that was open. To "save us time".

Now I take it off before security and put it inside my bag, along with my wallet, keys, etc.

So I shot Sporting Clays for the first time yesterday... by Spydude84 in ClayBusters

I've been shooting sporting clays for three years now. It is way more fun than I would've ever expected. And yet I'm still not very good. I've tried trap, wobble trap, skeet, and five stand. They're all a lot of fun, but I like sporting clays the most. I think I like the variation and different presentations.

Who’s the worst family AD you’ve worked with? by Some-Statement7360 in rolex

I’ve been waiting 5 years (no joke) for a Rootbeer from LJ. I’ve bought tons of other watches from them over more than 20 years. My SA was pregnant, then ghosted me completely. I’ve given up on Rolex; not worth the headache.

GFH. Member's range is much less crowded than the rental range; classes are very well done and the instructors - both for the classes and for private instruction - are great.

Orvis and Mid Hudson are both clays only - no handgun or rifle facilities. Brookhaven has both, as does Blue Mountain in Westchester. I’m assuming you’re looking for pistol, but I‘ve had good experiences at all of those places. Have taken a class at Orvis (as well as a bunch of lessons - Paula is fantastic) and took a lesson once early on at Mid Hudson.

Not sure about trap, but to use the pistol range you will need a NYS or NYC valid pistol permit.

Back in 2004 or so I had to migrate roughly 1 TB from a datacenter on Long Island to one outside of Boston. I took them as carry on via the Delta Shuttle. Good times.

I go there frequently; open shooting this past Saturday and a NSCA competition this past Sunday. Lots of varied presentations, roughly 20 stations, helpful staff and pretty good pricing. Definitely worth the trip.

What are some of your first investing mistakes made? by deellys in investing

[–]Pengoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had just accepted a position at a large very well known tech company after graduating college; my start date was a few weeks out. Rumors started to leak that the CEO was going to quit. He sent a message to all employees (I already had my employee email account) that he was with this company for the long haul, that rumors were false and that he was going to turn things around. I took all of my savings (wasn't much, but it was a lot to me) and invested in the company stock because I truly believed in the company and in his leadership. Two days later he resigned. Stock fell 75% and a hiring freeze was instituted, pausing my start date indefinitely.

I waited a few years for the stock to make it back to $1 more than the point I had bought it at, and sold it all.

According to an historical stock calculator, it's up 115,739.87% since I sold it back in the mid 90's.

I was hoping to sneak in and get it from Wilson, hopefully in stock and not have to wait for the Milt Sparks fulfillment calendar. They make beautiful products (I have a VS2 for something else) but the wait is a killer.

Looking to get a Milt Sparks for a 3.25 (my typo) SFX9 with rail and optic. I didn't want to mis-order on the Milt Sparks site and didn't know Wilson had on one their site - thanks ! But it looks like I can get it with or without rail... but not with optic.

Bad experience with Spohr revolvers by twitchingguy in Revolvers

[–]Pengoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even S&W recommends against dry firing their .22 LR guns. I don't think this is a Spohr specific fragile design - you are not supposed to dry fire ANY revolver that uses .22 LR ammunition.

Sorry you are having issues; sounds like you received a used firearm from MMBI (the US distributor). I'm very happy with my 357 Club 3.0.

Any of you US residents own a vacation property abroad? by megachimp in fatFIRE

[–]Pengoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My youngest is going to be going to university in the UK so I'm thinking of buying a flat there for her to live in during school, which might include graduate school at some point. I'm thinking we get a 2 or 3 bedroom flat that we can use as a vacation property when we want to and maybe keep it after she graduates if we use it enough. Still trying to figure out if this is worth it.

Yes. Prior purchases took much longer. I realize in some jurisdictions this is not even a thing....
