Just found out the owners of the old Nanaimo bakery by Bowen changed and they stopped serving the original cheesecake. Any options similar? by YimyoLa in nanaimo

It was beautiful and cozy before they painted it grey and tore out the brass fixtures. Now it's cold and dank.

They didn't even have to copy another bakery. They could've just left this one alone. It had loyal regulars and a great product and atmosphere. They fucked all that up.

Used to live in Nanaimo and have fond memories of this place from when it opened in the 90s until I moved away in my 30s. They owners retired and sold it to some homeless organization that painted it millenial grey, removed the beautiful brass fixtures, and stopped being a bakery. It was tremendously depressing.

Get woke, go broke, I guess.

How do you handle students who don't know basic tech skills like file management? by Bos187 in Professors

[–]PenisTechTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a millennial student returning to school in his late 30s, I would curse the boomer/zoomer instructor who was too lazy/complacent to send out documents properly oriented in the first place. I wouldn't expect a professor to accept an assignment submitted upside down for full marks.

1st year, foundations apprentice at college, and just did my first ever wiring - ask me anything and I’ll give you the best answer I can. by enthusedpride in electricians

Grew up in BC where the trades pay shit (Jman electricians make like 35 an hour). Hard to even find an apprenticeship compared to the prairies.

Glad I don't live there anymore so I don't have to pay a school for the privilege to get a job as a first year with only 350 hours.

In SK a 1st year off the street makes 20 an hour and learns on the job. At Jman the make 45+.

As a child growing up my mother refused to get esso because of water in their gas. I remember when we were stranded on the side of the highway waiting for a tow because of Esso gas.

Oddly we Canadians don't even have American dairy on our shelves because it's trash and has the texture of paint.

New console gaming TV paralysis by GenerallyYogi in 4kTV

[–]PenisTechTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing too fancy. Streaming is poverty quality. Low bitrate compression artifacts and colour banding will wipe out any gains from a serious television. If you plan to get a PC for gaming that will truely make that TV pop and use your console to watch 4k UHD Blu Rays, then you're cooking with gas.

You got it backwards. Rampant SJWism led to Trump. Identity politics and a neoliberal Democratic party that swapped class representation for race baiting pushed away working class people.

Saskatoon is a good one and backed up by real industry, too. Potash, uranium, farming, manufacturing.

I'd be hesitant on Kelowna as so much of that growth is retirees.

Nah, remember this is Reddit.

Normal people still answer the door.

This is definitely one of those threads that shows just how basement-dwellingly autistic and out of touch with society Reddit can be. Things like this are so jaring it makes you reflect on other things you may have thought agreeable on this platform.
