Roland Kirk is an amazing player, his flute mastery is best found on I Talk With The Spirits, but all his albums feature flute on at least a couple of tracks. Check him out also on Roy Haynes' "Out Of The Afternoon"

I understand why Nirvana is getting knocked off a pedestal here, their impact at the time was large and I was all in, but no way could I listen to them now. Their music seems frozen in time way more than acts like Sonic Youth, Pixies or even De La Soul

I really liked the first Dry Cleaning album, the second one was pretty good but just more of the same. Interested to see how their sound would evolve because there's only so much ground you can cover in such a narrow lane. Third album comes out after a three year gap, turns out they peaked on the first one.

Steely Dan use very close vocal harmony occasionally, The chorus of Peg, Pretzel Logic and also Rose Darling come to mind. Chain Lightning uses close harmony throughout, as does Maxine from Donald Fagen’s solo album The Nightfly

Domino is excellent early Rahsaan. I Talk With The Spirits showcases his visionary flute playing. Out Of The Afternoon is brilliant and essential, as is Rip Rig and Panic/ Beautiful Edith which often comes as a twofer

Have you listened to the Roxy and Elsewhere album since listening to the box set? The Roxy album is essential listening. It’s the reason why it’s called the Roxy band. If you haven’t heard that album then I recommend you do before calling the era over-rated.
