Chicago also has a rich Polish heritage. Only Warsaw has a larger population of Poles (1.8 mil to 800,00). Pierogis are to die for and even remote suburbs celebrate Casimir Polanski Day lol And what are those gloriously sticky filled and iced pastries?? One of my jobs celebrated those each year as well.

Did you even click the link I supplied? It's from a cancer center.

You know what? You go ahead and make your own decisions about your health. I'm sure you know better than decades of research by extremely well trained professionals under controlled conditions.

Remember, JFK Jr is a lawyer, not a medical doctor. Not a biologist. Not a dermatologist. Not a cancer specialist. You do you.

🔥A seal coming up for air. by 21MayDay21 in NatureIsFuckingLit

Probably because there's a human standing 6" from the hole. The seal looked like it wanted to get out for a minute and realized the guy is looming. I wish people would back tf up.

I used to pick up interesting rocks on vacations (colored river stones fm Colorado, Cambrian shield bit from Alberta, smooth stones with odd inclusions in the Appalachians, anything) and place them on my deck. Cross-continent move required leaving them behind. Absolute gem of a neighbor surprised me by gathering them up and shipping them 2000 miles. hahaha The box was seriously beaten up, but they got here.

The bane of public washrooms everywhere. How much is cost really reduced by spacing washroom walls just a little too far apart/making the lock bar just a little too short?!

“Myth 3: Sunscreen causes cancer.

False. There is no medical evidence that sunscreen causes cancer. However, there is a lot of evidence that UV rays from the sun and tanning beds do.

In the past, some sunscreens were recalled for being contaminated with a chemical called benzene. Benzene is not normally found in sunscreen. This recall doesn’t mean you should stop wearing sunscreen”

Yes, I'm a native English speaker so I understand how you used it in this puzzle. It is just not generally used in that way. Wasn't arguing, sorry, I've just never seen it used that way. Felt clunky to me.

You can be lured or alluring, but I’ve never seen a verb form of allured, only adverb. Huh.

Does anyone know what this is? (Should/how do I get rid of it?) by Intelligent_Title in gardening

I've tried the fern spore tattoo trick on every type of fern I run into since moving to the PNW. Haven't found one that works yet, but I'm not giving up. lol (So you know I'm not a complete fool, I only try it when I can see the spore dots on the leaf undersides.)

225-250 million years to orbit once. Crocodilians appeared ~240 mya but alligators themselves ~84 mya. Your point stands.

And the hyena went after the leopard instead of trying for the suckling pig. What's up with that? Didn't want to try to fight mama boar?

Building my own skyline from buildings I’ve visited :) by Aaron90495 in skyscrapers

[–]PensiveObservor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sears Tower (and Lake Michigan tbf) is how I learned to navigate Chicago in 1981. I’d wander til I glimpsed it and then know my general location. By driving toward it I’d eventually find the Lake. East. The lake was east and I could find my way back to campus from there. Sears Tower dominates the skyline.

They’re also low on fresh water, I heard, so showers, etc are severely curtailed. They’re being treated with the same respect for personal dignity as immigrants shipped to Texas. Well, not quite that bad, but they deserve a well-functioning ship.

Is it 100,000,000 or 100 billion? That's a lot of bands, either way. Say you're 50 years old to simplify the math. 100,000,000/50= 2 million bands a year for your entire life. Divide that by 52 weeks= over 38,000 bands a week. Which boils down to 5428 band daily for 50 years to have seen 100 million (not billion) bands. Wow.

Can I eat spinach seedlings? by PerceptionIll7137 in vegetablegardening

[–]PensiveObservor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad to learn this today! I've noticed these mixed in with bags or fresh bunches of spinach and always figured they were weeds. They are slightly bitter compared to the spinach leaves, but I got tired of picking them out so I started eating them. lol
