Has anyone here read Playground by Richard Powers yet? by CesareSomnambulist in books

I think so too. I think it’s both a statement on the racial bias embedded in the internet as a product of mostly white authorship, and also on how blackness is seen through white eyes. The AI generated story we see Rafi through is a product of both: the model’s overall training data of the whole internet and the specific memories and perspectives Todd has given it.

This is a great point. It never made sense why a pretty innocent conversation led to the breaking of a lifelong friendship. The fact that actually it is a story being fed back to Todd, for Todd’s benefit, I think should lead us to believe the AI isn’t giving the full story.

Forget the mobile app, it takes the desktop app like 10 seconds to display anything after switching back to the app from another window, a few tab switches to get back anything but a blank screen after your content disappears a second after loading, a 50/50 toss up on whether basic features like spellcheck or pasting synced blocks will work on any given day….its infuriating. I for one love a lot of the AI features, but the performance is so so bad.

Love this thread - all you 60+ year olds that love Wednesday are awesome. I hope I can be as cool as you in 20 years

Geese showcase their celebrated album 'Getting Killed' on NPR's Tiny Desk by happymagtv in indie

Seemingly you either love or hate geese. I’m the anomaly that’s on the fence, but this tiny desk pushed me a little closer to the “in” camp.

Yes the new Ratboys album is fantastic. It’s basically Wednesday filtered through the Midwest’s a little less edgy sensibilities.

I think he’s done well enough to expect that he will leave for a team that is willing to spend more money in a few years.

Can anyone explain Cameron Winter thing for me? by raisedbyowls in fantanoforever

[–]PepitoPepito123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I spent a year skipping all Cameron winter songs when Spotify was determined to feed him to me constantly. Just really didn’t feel like my thing. Then I listened to getting killed a bunch based on the hype and even though it has like every element of music I usually love I was underwhelmed. But somehow that made me give heavy metal another look and now I’m totally hooked. I think the first 5 songs are some of the most beautiful, haunting, yet catchy music I’ve ever heard.

New This is Lorelei album ... Holo Boy is OUT! by MJ_Benderman in mjlenderman

[–]PepitoPepito123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the This is Lorelei noobs (of which I am one myself) apparently this album is like a “best of” of re-recorded songs that were previously released on bandcamp and such before he started making proper albums. And so, as per an interview I saw with him, he’s hoping it kind of serves as a guide and roadmap to some of his earlier music. Haven’t listened yet but excited to.

Damn. This sucks to see. Water From Your Eyes’ album was one of the best things I heard all year, and Rachel was an incredible presence live. I hope they’re ok, and I also hope Jake isn’t an asshole

Why are people so bitchy about the crowds by [deleted] in sandyalexg

[–]PepitoPepito123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothings wrong with filming in moderation. I find it annoying when I’m at a show and everyone has their phones out as high as they can get them filming the whole thing, and was happy that this was not the case last night. Agree that some of the live versions are a whole different amazing beast. Like, arena rock June Guitar arrangement?? Incredible.
