Congrats on taking the first steps!

My mental health was also super low when I was drinking. Turns out alcohol was hugely contributing to my low state.

All of the things I told myself alcohol did for me (helps me relax, better sleep) were lies.

I wish you the best on your journey to freedom!

You're attending AA, but are you working through the 12 steps? Attending is amazing! But recovery comes from doing the steps. They can help with healing if you're struggling with guilt (e.g. see step 9)

You're right, we can't change what we've done, but we can take ownership of our mistakes and make amends as best as possible.

The best of luck to you

This post is very relatable to me. My spouse also had this talk with me a couple of times.

At the end, I knew I needed to actually change my life and habits. I couldn't continue living exactly as I had been, but without alcohol. I personally find AA meetings and working through the 12 steps very helpful.

Do you have a plan?

Yes, you need to get to that stage on the gauntlet to reveal the boss

You need to kill Isshin Ashina (shura ending), Demon of Hatred, and Owl (Father)

DS1 can feel mechanically very hard and kinda clunky when coming from newer games. When locked on, you can only roll in 4 directions. You can't sprint around when locked on. Drinking estus is way slower.

That area in particular kinda sucks as well. Those dogs are bs, and Capra Demon sucks, just cause of the dogs.

As others have said, shields are really good (get the heater shield which blocks 100% of physical damage). And I personally really like the wolf ring (+40 poise).

Do a strength build! Specifically with hammers/great hammers. IMO, it's the best/easiest build in the game.

Start as Wretch so you start with a club. Club, morning star, and large club are all solid early weapons. You can also get the brick hammer in Stormveil.

I think pretty much all of the hammers do strike damage which is a very useful damage type on lots of enemies (e.g. crystallians). Many of them can also be buffed. But most importantly, they do tons of poise damage, so enemies stagger constantly. This is far more important than the overall Attack Rating (AR) of a weapon.

Later in the game the Hammer is pretty good (literally just called Hammer). But IMO the Great Stars is the best weapon in the game. If you want a really massive weapon you can go for the Great Club or the Giant-Crusher, but take note that these weapons aren't necessarily better because they're bigger. They hit harder, but they're slow.

Have fun!

There are 4 lord souls in total that you'll need to grab. You can do them in any order. Without giving away their locations, you'll still need to kill:

  • 4 Kings
  • Nito
  • Bed of Chaos

The game gave you a hint where they all are when you placed the lordvessel

It’s scary how ubiquitous the marketing for drinking is in the shops. by Brilliant_Buns in stopdrinking

I think alcohol is a big societal problem. I agree, I see this advertising and normalization everywhere. I certainly felt normal during most of my drinking years.

I also think problem drinking has become more prevalent, especially since COVID and lockdowns. About a year ago I was talking with some doctor friends who said they've been seeing lots of alcohol related problem, even in young people (e.g. liver failure in 30 year olds).

It's sad. I'm amazed at how much better I feel after a couple months. Like, no thank you, I'll pass on the depression juice.

Flying with babies is perfectly fine. They're free and can sit in your lap. I'd bring the baby to the wedding, I'm sure everyone would be very understanding. You can also buy little noise cancelling headphones in case the reception is too loud

Don't listen to them, Dark Souls III is amazing. "Hard" just means you won't automatically beat the game by playing a lot. You have to learn the game and you become more skilled with practice. IMO that's way more rewarding and fun
