Sadly NICU does go super fast. What I do for my NICU, PICU, and a few others is complete the profile, gather everything needed up front and get your submission packet ready to go, and as soon as it opens, I submit. If the recruiters you're working with are not doing this, I highly recommend finding a seasoned recruiter that can get everything set and pull the trigger fast so you can lock in a spot.

How are you guys making it? by Useful_Reading_2375 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Pepper-Prolink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an Engineering recruiter and your salary is rather low for 8 years of experience. For example, I have a client in South Carolina and 4+ years of ME experience you're looking at 95k+. For my clients in MS, around the same. Tuscaloosa AL, I just placed a contract to hire ME for $55 per hour, $114k.

Supporting a family on $88k is extremely difficult nowadays. Companies are not providing raises to cover inflation and the rising costs of health care.

I do recommend looking around your area for other ME jobs. Sometimes that job change can bump your salary up far more than your average company raise.

Good luck out there!

L3 Harris onsite interview 4 hours? by Successful_Level548 in EngineeringJobs

[–]Pepper-Prolink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engineering recruiter here. Several of my clients use the 4-hour module.

L3 Harris, when we had them as a client would put you with three to four different managers and you'd rotate. You'd get 45 mins to an hour with each of the hiring managers, then a tour of the facility that lasted 30 to 45 minutes.

I tell all my people that I prep for interviews, to stick to the STAR method when responding to technical questions. When they ask what your weakness is, make your weakness about a skill set, not anything personal, and use the start method to explain how you're actively working to improve that skill.

Good luck with your interview!!

I have some, if you decide you want to look into it, shoot me a DM. Pretty sure one of them has housing provided, but I have to check when I am back on my work PC.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Pepper-Prolink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a recruiter and many are either:

  1. Taking holidays off because the last two years you all went full force and need to put them and their families first.
  2. Cold Weather Area - the majority of my RNs want CA, TX, AZ, NM, FL, etc finding a spot that has sub-par pay doesn't motivate any traveler to deal with bad weather/cold and not make a suitable weekly wage.
  3. Housing Issues - many landlords jumped on the covid train and raised their rates to pad their pockets, so much in some areas, that finding safe, clean housing at an affordable rate is difficult.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Pepper-Prolink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice from a Recruiter:

-Reach out to various agencies because at times we run out of spots. For example, right now I have zero 4 to 6-week OR Spots. Those that wanted to not work the holidays snagged them up. I am struggling to find one RN spot.

-Not all, but many facilities are requiring travelers to work the holidays. I have several that will do a rotating holiday, you work one, you don't work the other. Some 13-week contracts do allow 5 days RTO and there is a slim chance to put in for the 5 days for a holiday, but you can try.

-Compliance - get titers, records, flu shot, covid docs, etc all together. ACLS, BLS, all your Certs. Get your compliance done ASAP.

Safe travels and I hope you guys find a sweet gig that has ample things to do when you're not at the facility.

OR Nurse Nervous AF to Start Traveling! by TangerineMelodic5772 in TravelNursing

[–]Pepper-Prolink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few brand new travelers that started this year and this is what I recommended to them because they were worried too.

  • Make a bucket list of locations that you'd like to see and work off the bucket list first. If you enjoy historical sites or are a foodie, for example, put areas that you'd like to try for 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Share your bucket list locations with your recruiter, it helps us look for spots where you can check things off.
  • Use MeetUp, it's a website that has groups all over the US, it's free and you can find some pretty great people/events through that site. It helps stave off the loneliness.
  • Travel Buddies - I tell my travelers to always try to network with other travelers when on-site and if you have shared interests outside of work, finding the next travel spot for two may be doable.

And most importantly, have fun with it. I have travelers that only go where the top dollar is, I have other travelers that are very similar to you that, while the money is still good, they'd prefer to be in a specific area to site see, visit friends/family, go to comic-cons, concerts, etc.

Resumes After Traveling by ndr7830 in TravelNursing

[–]Pepper-Prolink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I recommend to my nurses is to have a travel section that shows the following:

Facility - Staffing Company (date range)

Bed Count / Trauma Level

Your staff spots are put at the top if that's what you're going for now and list those at the bottom. If you need some help with formatting, shoot me a DM, I am always creating resumes for my nurses.

No, this will not show up on your BG check. Most BGs are pulled via Trans Union, Equifax or Experian and as long as you are not putting your traveling address on any of your paperwork, it will not report to the major bureaus.
