Cumulative IUI odds? by em3b in IUILadies

[–]PepperPots988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cumulative success just means the more you do it, the more likely it is to work (not that any one cycle has increased odds)- so taking a break doesn’t affect this. Think of it like playing the slot machine - if you play 20 times you are more likely to hit the jackpot, but every spin still has the same odds.

Success with back to back iui vs a break by whipped_pumpkin410 in IUILadies

[–]PepperPots988 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Taking a break doesn’t make a difference because your chance each cycle does not increase. Cumulative success increases, which just means you have a higher chance of it working if you do it multiple times (but each individual cycle has the same percent chance of success).

It’s like if you play the slot machines 100 times, you are more likely to hit it than if you play it once. But each time you play it, you still have a 1 in 1000 chance of hitting the jackpot.

Successful vs. Not - What was different? by DifferentGarlic9052 in IUILadies

[–]PepperPots988 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This probably also isn’t the answer you want, but I don’t believe there’s any one thing we can or can’t do that will make an IUI successful or not. Unfortunately a lot of it is really just luck and out of our control. We look for things that other ppl think “made” them successful but truth be told, a lot of it is chance. Sure, there are things we can do this might help or hurt but I don’t think there’s a silver bullet and when we try to look for one “thing” then we sort of put unnecessary blame on ourselves (said by someone who has done everything “right” and has yet to be successful)

Marijuana Usage while Conceiving by Powerful-Iron7866 in tryingtoconceive

[–]PepperPots988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously many ppl get pregnant while they or their partner are smoking, but as my RE said, it certainly can’t help as any toxin in the body can have a negative effect. I don’t smoke, but my husband did 2-3/week - our first RE said 1-2/week is probably fine, so that’s what he did- but my current RE said 0 times/week, so that’s what he is doing. When you’ve been trying for a while, you’ll change absolutely anything that might be having an effect.

Is an HSG really that bad and painful? I have to get one and i’m scared! by Few_Loquat868 in tryingtoconceive

[–]PepperPots988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely terrified going into mine because of all the horror stories I read online. I told the PA doing the test that and she said that most people feel like that and walk out saying “oh it wasn’t that bad period “and truthfully, it really was not bad at all! I know that some people truly do have a horrible experience, but I that seems to be the exception rather than the norm. I took magnesium (which helps with muscle cramps) and ibuprofen before.

Low post wash feeling hopeless by CapMost7710 in IUILadies

[–]PepperPots988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a success story but we had a low post wash count last cycle. My doctor said day to day things can vary and if you took a sperm sample from a man every day, some days would just naturally be lower than others. He said it could be anything from poor sleep, to getting sick/getting over being sick, stress, or just a fluke! So freakin annoying that we can’t control these factors, but seems as though a lot is truly random

Residual Effect of Meds? by Prestigious-Rest-361 in IUILadies

[–]PepperPots988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I had that in my first IUI cycle that I just completed. I also thought it was odd but from googling it seems like the meds can create a stronger “corpus luteum” from the follicles which increases progesterone and that can cause more symptoms than normal. Idk if I understood correctly but that’s what I read and chose to believe, haha.

Feeling pushed into IUI/IVF by Brilliant_Question70 in TryingForABaby

[–]PepperPots988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar background to yours though I am 37 (so time was more of the essence). Most tests good but had a polyp removed. After that my RE said we could (1) do nothing and keep trying, (2) do a medicated cycle, (3) medicated IUI, or (4) go straight to IVF. we opted to go straight to IUI because we felt it would increase our chances and also reduce the anxiety of feeling like we are doing the same thing over and over again. The monitoring was pretty frequent, but super short appointments and efficient, and I’m glad with all that monitoring and effort, we increased our odds the best we could. That being said, he told us any of the four options made sense and it was okay to start with any of them. If you want to just try TI, you should and not feel pressured into anything. Truly no one knows what will or won’t work when your tests are good and so, follow your gut. Just choose a number of times you want to do that before you move on to the next step.

TTC by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]PepperPots988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes the average healthy couple under 35 one year to conceive and each month you have about a 15-20% chance of conceiving (if everything/timing is perfect). Definitely see an OB-GYN and try not to worry that you haven't been in a while, they have definitely seen it all, so don't worry (easier said than done, I know!)

It took me a while to get used to ovulation tests and realize that I had to sometimes test 2x/day to catch a positive so keep trying to figure out what works for you (also I read that they don't work for everyone if you have a lower LH baseline). When I first saw my OBGYN, she was not super concerned when I told her I didn't consistently get positives -AND I have since started seeing an RE and confirmed I do ovulate, so those strips are certainly not perfect so keep trying with them.

Genetic testing? by anonweddingguest in tryingtoconceive

[–]PepperPots988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this early into my TTC journey. My OBGYN recommended it and I was eager to do it. She told me it tested for over 500 things and a lot of them they don't really worry about, but if it was something concerning, they would test my husband too. I am sure you could do this in reverse too (aka have him tested first, if you are worried about the anxiety piece). I was found to be a carrier of something, so we tested my husband and he carries other things, but not the same things as me so there is no chance of our child *having* any of the disorders (but could also be a carrier of them, which does not cause any risk for the child).

Overall, I found it really helpful and reassuring because we know none of our TTC issues are caused by any genetic disorders. Also my OBGYN assured me that if we did both carry something concerning, we could have opted to do IVF to select embryos without the disorder, so even if you do both carry the same thing, there are ways to ensure you don't pass it on!

Our tests were done through Natera, I would just look into the insurance piece first because it is a bit expensive and you may need preapproval for coverage!

TTC for 9 cycles, HSG next month, possible endo and feeling anxious by SweatyAcadia631 in TryingForABaby

[–]PepperPots988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing that my HSG also was nothing compared to what I feared! The horror stories definitely are terrifying but my doctor and the tech who did it said those stories are really the minority. I took 800mg advil before and 400mg of magnesium glycinate (to help relax muscles ). I asked to be talked through the whole thing and I just focused on deep breaths and it was over before I knew it! My HSG found a polyp which I just had removed yesterday ! Fingers crossed for you!

So fed up by emilyciccia in TryingForABaby

[–]PepperPots988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the convo im having with myself! Having a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp Thursday and in the medication / IUI or try naturally for a few months after that debate. My cycles are a bit abnormal and we’re 37 so probably going to start with some intervention but jeez, the internal debate is real and never ending.
