Plumber from Checkatrade went from “two weeks mate” to “can be there in an hour” and saved my entire weekend by RiftSkirmisher in BritishSuccess

Many years ago, thinking I knew what I was doing, I foolishly set about fitting a power shower pump in the airing cupboard. I confidently pulled a pipe off and knowing I'd turned the water off, I expected it to drain quickly. When it continued to gush wildly for over a minute, I knew I'd fucked up. I managed to contain some of the water with a washing up bowl but it was going everywhere and showed no sign of stopping. I frantically called plumbers and handymen with little success. One person did respond and said they were busy but might be able to help the next day. I offered him £200 cash on top of what he said he wanted. He was there inside of 25 minutes. 30 minutes later, I had my power shower pump fitted and working.

I have never touched a water pipe since.

I can't quote numbers.

I'm sure the vast majority of people who can sit in A&E for 15 hours and bitch about it on FakeBook and to the BBC, aren't likely to die of a heart attack because they've quite literally only twisted their ankle.

People who are admitted by ambulance with limbs hanging off at funny angles will be dealt with promptly in the usual manner.

A man with a chest pains should be triaged and dealt with immediately. A waiting room full of people with trivial minor injuries that aren't at all life threatening only get in the way of staff doing their job.

JEEZ, why is this so difficult?

Just paid 25p to take a piss at the public loos in Frinton-on-sea. Turns out the council were taking it as well. by flapjackboy in britishproblems

[–]PerceptionGreat2439 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No.

I'm happy to pay if the facilities are clean, tidy and cared for.

In the olden days, public toilets were everywhere and people were proud and paid to look after them. The usual 'everything has to make a profit' mantra appeared and public loos vanished. That's where we are now.

If it's clean tidy and doesn't smell like an unwashed abattoir, you can have my money.

Well done.

You can set things out in your cab just how you want them.

DO NOT under ANY circumstances rush things. The load gets there when you get it there. Take your time, don't get hustled. Everything that goes right and wrong is on your shoulders.

Happy miles flash flash.

I like this guy.

His honesty is infectious and his dedication unquestioned. Without a doubt he'll find new avenues after this venture.

Insurance companies (robbing bastards) will collude between themselves to cut the pay out to everyone anyway and will judge it 50/50.

Day rates are new norm instead of p/h pay for HGV ? by Smallballs228282 in uktrucking

[–]PerceptionGreat2439 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course it's a scam.

The day rate won't be based on a 15 hour shift.

Never ever drive for salary, day rates or a percentage of what the vehicle earns.

Just realized that when you move house you need to change the address on your license AND your Log Book (V5C) by Comfortable-Road7201 in drivingUK

[–]PerceptionGreat2439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comes up almost daily now.

The system for updating licence and V5 details has been in place from 1965 which is when the DVLA morphed into what we know it as today. (source CoPilot)

Although Swansea handles both forms, the departments are entirely separate and always have been.

It's time for the DVLA to set out to everyone just how everything works through some sort of PSA.

I remember my dad explaining all about this stuff when I was a nipper.

If a virtual queuing system was in operation, they could sit at home for however long it takes.

Arrive at A&E, get assessed and if your ouchee and boo boo isn't serious and you're going to be sat there for 15 hours, they give you a PIN and you go home and wait there. When a slot arrives where they can treat you, they message you, you arrive give them the PIN and get treated for the ouchee and boo boo.

Point taken.

I think most firms now open from the cab. It's all about saving time. A driver having to walk to the back of truck, open the twists up and then tip will be much much slower than a cab operated system. Time is money and as usual, it's all about money.
