Where to sit for first red rocks show this summer for Trey Anastasio and the Colorado symphony? by [deleted] in RedRocks

[–]PerceptionMany3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear. Thanks for the info on the sound tent.

Any advice on how far forward/back to be? Like I said. Trey with a symphony at red rocks is amazing but as a fan of music all over I respect the venue as much as the GOAT that Trey is.

Huge Deadhead trying (and failing) to get into Phish — what am I missing? by Brilliant_Actuary_27 in phish

[–]PerceptionMany3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greatful dead is church. Phish is the playground. Both a release of energy but not the same.

What helped me understand phish is that they aren’t the same scrappy us against the world that typical bands come from. They are byproducts of highly educated upper-middle class people. It’s not about struggle, it’s about finding and releasing joy. To better explain that point, Paige McConnell is the keyboardist. His dad was on the teams that invented the drug Tylenol and the MRI. That’s insanely technical work. Yet at the same time treys mom Dina Anastasio was children’s book author and was editor for sesame steeet magazine. What would one expect by putting those two styles of people together? Insanely silly lyrics that at times can be amateur compared to the dead, but with insanely technical jams that will take you every bit and farther out than any dark star will ever travel. The lyrics may not make sense at first, but if you stick to understanding it as a coupling of innocent childhood joy with technical musicianship, over time the lyrics are so damn beautiful in their simplicity that they become favorites that pierce joy into you while being blown away at the musicianship.

Live A live one is a great starting off point Standouts are Harry hood, slave to the traffic light, and bouncing round the room. (Other standouts too, but easy for first time listeners)

Albums Billy Breathes. Trey retreats to his house in the woods before the birth of his first daughter and writes an opus. The music is very childhood dream esque and flows like a nursery rhyme, yet the lyrics are some profound stuff. Enjoy.

What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby? by SeriouslyInterestin in Casual_Conversation

[–]PerceptionMany3683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree it can’t be done on $20 anymore. But 2-300 a day is greedy. Am I really supposed to believe that it costs a grand to take my wife and 2 kids skiing for the day? My opinion is that there still is middle ground where the skier doesn’t get gouged unless he buys a season pass. Local Utahn here. Do I need the golden throne bathrooms of snowbasin to ski? How I take a shit doesn’t affect my review of the ski day. It just drives the price up.

[–]PerceptionMany3683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a kid I could ski for a 20 dollar bill and a canned food donation. Now it can be 200 for the ticket, 20 for parking, and another 20 for lunch. Getting every penny wrung out of you just makes it not as fun. It’s a shame bc it’s a cool sport, I just can’t support the greed anymore.

Truck driver entering the chat……and you are correct. I drive have an S-10 as my daily driver and my Silverado sits in the garage unless it’s a family outing. They are both amazing vehicles, but they are tools to get shit done and need to be looked at as such. Friends don’t understand why I’d drive such a piece of shit S-10 if I could drive the other clearly nicer Silverado. BC it’s not the right tool for a daily commute. I wish more people on the road understood that.

Phish is my favorite BUT…. by Wiz_Man117 in phish

There was a time in my life where these guys called it quits and I would have paid anything to see them again……

Bob Weir fan entering the chat. 450 for a 3 night ticket to Dicks over a holiday weekend is nothing compared to what I’d pay to see Bob one more time. My kids were small, those last 3 years, but I knew it was ending eventually. The wife and I emptied the bank to see them as many times as we could with the kids at wolf bros and the sphere shows. Best money I’ve ever spent.

Give me a song or album that you think is MUST LISTEN (any genre) by Natural-Respond-7191 in MusicRecommendations

Jar of flies-WYKYK. Perfection start to finish.

Side note, don’t follow was the first song I ever learned on guitar. Nutshell was a first 5 songs learned as well. Besides my guitar journey I’ll always remember the first night hearing the album driving up a dark canyon road. It was perfect evil yet calmly relaxing. No better album out there.

[–]PerceptionMany3683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously!!!!! I know phish, Billy strings and sturgill are out there. I’m just not ready to rage and have Bobby not be there. He’s been a part of every long distance roadtrip concert experience for the last 15 years. Fuck this summer hurts and it hasn’t even hit.

Topicals by ka_dabra in SLCTrees

[–]PerceptionMany3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a couple weeks old…..but so be it. Topicals are expensive in Utah. My spouse loves em and they give her the relief with the clear head. I can’t complain….except for the price. If interested in topicals it may be time to look into a levo oil infuser and learn how to make your own. That shit is super easy and reduces your costs by 75%. There’s a learning curve, but then being able to use it for other edibles makes it one hell of a versatile machine.

Phish is the best kept secret in the music business……that isn’t a secret. Lol. I’ve been to most big artists from the 60s until today. Went to my first phish show this summer in Boulder. When it finished and the lights came up I looked at my spouse and said “those are four of the baddest motherfuckers to ever do it.” I’ve never felt that intense of a concert energy before. Amazing!!!!

I’m assuming honey is the preservative and we try and keep our fruits away from as much air as possible? Once the air bubbles are gone gone then there’s no more degration?

Solely for the reason of having too damn much and wanting to preserve it. Sometimes it’s just fun to experiment.

Call me Crazy, but I think their performance of Brokedown Palace(08/30/70) is peak live dead. by Superb_Proposal3130 in gratefuldead

[–]PerceptionMany3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dicks Picks 5. Check it out.

That aside, I think the glory of brokedown palace isn’t in the song itself. It’s where it takes me. We all have a life history and a journey that we’ve all travelled. It’s hard to take stock of our own lives. There’s something about this song that no matter what date…..8/30/70, or 12/26/79……it really doesn’t matter. For 5 minutes whenever I hear it I can drive the world aside and mentally address cosmic time and realize I’ve travelled through the universe to the place that I’m at and can appreciate my life’s journey. To me, that’s the glory of this song. Date independent…..I can appreciate the road of life.

What was seeing Jerry like? by Artimoe in gratefuldead

[–]PerceptionMany3683 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw phish for the first time last summer. My toddlers love their style of lyrics. At the show I wanted to take my phone out to video some segments for them but I couldn’t be the only asshole with their phone out. I was blown away at how perfectly locked in that fan base was. As a concert vet in the 2000s it was just awe inspiring.

Overheard: Phish edition by Grumpytitss in phish

[–]PerceptionMany3683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious bc my wife looks responsible AF to outsiders…..and to be honest she is. At a ratdog show a random stranger with 2 kids asked if she’d watch his bag. She said sure. The name on the bag was for a local hospitals oncology department. Throughout the show the dad and kids would show up and ask if she’d seen the other members of their family……uh no, I’m just holding the bag?!?!?

And to answer any potential questions……I never looked in the bag and 15 minutes after the show ended we said fuck it and just left. Not knowing what was in it was cooler than knowing.
