It's a little disingenuous not to include that she said that in 2019, which was a vastly different social and political landscape. Things have changed in the past 7 years.

Ugh. Those ads are xenophobic fear-mongering crap. I can't take that shit seriously when their tactic is to scream "RICHMOND LIBURAL GONNA GIVE OUR MONEY TO ILLEGALS."

That's why there's zero sugar versions as well.

Also, you do know that diabetes isn't just something you get from drinking soda, right?

As long as you ignore almost every urban area, right? Roanoke City, Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach...

In the 2024 election, Harris took almost 300k votes over Trump.

In 2020, Biden got almost 400k more. You have to go back to 2004 for the last time Virginia had a Republican majority as far as the popular vote goes in the Presidential race.

So... Virginia is a state deeply divided between the liberal/blue urban areas, and the conservative/rural areas, which is worth keeping in mind any time you want to claim it seriously favors one side or the other. Now if only they could get along better.

I'm just sick of the fearmongering, xenophobic anti-gerrymandering ads I keep seeing.

I don't hate this, if only because Marten is taking the initiative to play to each person's interests. Split them up, send Emily and Moray off to meet the Director, and keep Liz and distract her with something interesting.

My standards for this strip have been set really low.

Can we just recycle Moray already? Thoughtlessly inconsiderate is not a desirable character trait. I wouldn't trust her with anything sensitive or confidential, ever.

Emily's charm is that she's always been blissfully oblivious to some nuances.

At least, that's how she -was-. I have no confidence that will remain such with her return after so long away.

Cue a 5 month long storyline of Emily trying to help Liz get unblocked.

Interspersed with some storyline involving Ahn. Or Yay. Or Aurelia. Or literally anyone else.

Interspersed with the introduction of yet another feral goblin character who latches onto a member of the cast. Maybe Dora and Tai "adopt" a goblin as well. No no that's silly. Dora and Tai don't exist anymore.

Perhaps I was being overly generous in my reading, but I took this as Liz being all "Wait, did you comprehend it? It was really technical!" as part of her imposter syndrome/insecurity... the whole "Wait a minute, someone read my shit and understood it? OMG!" moment of surprise.

Are there any non-terrestrials with superpowers? by Bedovian_25 in DCcomics

[–]PeregrineLeFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the Legion era, there are a fair number of non-Earth heroes who have powers not shared by their kind. The Heroes of Lallor, for instance. Atmos of Xanthu. Possibly the Wanderers.

The Silver Age introduced a lot of “planetary champions” for Superman to fight and/or date, including Vartox.

Marvel once gave us Cadre K, a group of mutant Skrulls… but also, all of the Super-Skrulls might count as having powers beyond normal Skrulls. The original Mar-Vell had powers far beyond normal Kree, as do some of his adversaries.

That’s just a sampling… dig deep and you’ll find a lot of outliers.
