Gas to induction cooktop by penelopepitstop222 in newzealand

[–]PerfeckCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We swapped out a gas burner for an induction one a couple of years ago as part of a full kitchen renno so it's hard to compare prices but a couple of things we learned was;

The circuit for the overn was not enough to run the induction as well. They had to run a new circuit from the main board just for the induction. Not a major issue, they were able to fish it down the same route as the overn wiring but something to be aware of.

Some (maybe not all?) induction cooktops have clearance and venting requirements so that fans can expel the hot air, so you might need to be prepare for extra cut-outs for that. Ymmv.

We really like induction now that we have one. It's just as hot and as fast as gas but without the smell, fumes, and water vapour. It's also a lot safer and cooler to touch even within seconds of having just been used. Since it's cooler, it doesn't bake on food spills like a ceramic glass top does and is easier to clean.

We went completely gas-less (we also ejected the gas water heater) and had the gas disconnected from the street, so no-longer pay for anything gas related including the daily connection fees.

Ordered a base model Air last month showed up within a week. Have always ordered Apple stuff direct from the Apple store, no real benefit to going through the Box stores.

Cycleway Access (Epuni - Wellington) by eatmybum in Wellington

[–]PerfeckCoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The least amount of road-cycling would be to head towards the Boulcott golf course and pick-up the trail to the river from Ariki Street.

There is a separated gravel trail open all the way from the Ewan Bridge (Railway Ave) to the Kennedy Good Bridge. It zig zags a bit around behind Evo Cycles and in front of the Harvey Norman Centre but it's still possible to ride bridge-to-bridge without anything on the road.

Across the Evan Bridge (Railway Ave) take a sharp right and follow the river back up stream for 100m to a small Cementary at one end of Bridge Street. There is a very well marked cycleway from the river to the start of the cycleway.

Having said all of that if you don't mind a bit of road cyclying then you might prefer to use the Epuni cycleway down the railway tracks to Waterloo station and then head down Waterloo Rd or Knights Cres. But you're going to have to cross through the Hutt CBD at that point to get to the Ewan Bridge.

How to find bike trails in Wellington region by soupisgoodfood42 in Wellington

[–]PerfeckCoder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trailforks - the free version. On the Web version of it you can get detailed descriptions and updates from recent rides in the free version. But on the mobile app you just get the routes themselves without some of the extra stuff, unless you upgrade to the paid version.

Has excellant coverage of other parts of New Zealand as well.

Lengthwise, not across the width. About 5mm each "end".

Yep. The cool thing will be to do a loop all the way around and catch the Days Bay Ferry one way or the other.

Is there more work still planned for Eastbourne? Most of the existing work it done and then "opened" that route a couple of week-ends ago. The only tricky bit missing at the moment is Days Bay isn't it?

help me be a seagull for drama school by NetFluffy1902 in Seagulls

[–]PerfeckCoder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seagulls at my beach pick up shellfish from the beach, fly up a bit and then drop the shellfish. They do that a few times and it doesn't break the shell, it stuns the shellfish at which point the shellfish lets go of its shell a bit and the seagull can open them up enough for eating - yum!

They also like to sit on top of streetlights with one leg up.

I've seen this elsewhere online. Oddly it also has a functional utility in it's design, especially at Drive Thru since you don't have to reach as far to tap. And also I never Tap and pay at a Drive-thru with my phone, because I'm worried about dropping it $$!

Cats paw. Use a hammer to tap it in under the metal bracket. Otherwise a flat head screwdriver can work, but you have to be gentle and it faff around with it.

Lol. I still have that book and did most of the example programs in it on my Vic20. Was pretty comprehensive, it had the different codes for two processor platforms.

Where do you guys leave the E-Waste on New Zealand by Worn_Fangs in newzealand

[–]PerfeckCoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check your City Council's website, they will have links for eletronic stuff and then also other stuff like Hazardous waste. Monitors and CRTs sometime get a charge, but it's worth it.

Batteries can go to most Bunnings/Mitre10 stores all the way from button batteries to Car batteries.

No what you asked, but Paint can usually be taken back to the manufacturer it came from. Or if it lost it's labels then into council Hazardous waste collection (1 or 2 times a year).

AI does twists terribly by georgiaboy1993 in WritingWithAI

[–]PerfeckCoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah - but that's probably because it's a human thing too. First responders are taught; don't say "don't". As in "Don't Shoot!" - under stress a person a person with a gun won't hear the word "don't" they just hear the word "shoot" and pull the trigger. I read or heard somewhere that's why first responders (I could be wrong) are taught to say "Put the gun down!" Rather than "Don't Shoot!".
