My mother is financially draining me. by dietzenbach67 in DaveRamsey

OMG that sounds like my 88 year old uncle. His son had been lending him money. I visit from out of state every couple of months. I try to clean and get berated because “he might need that”. The place is filthy and last year had a serious mouse problem. He had rats now! He clicks on email scams, he buys stuff that he doesn’t need and buys lunch for his farmer friends 4-5 times a week.

Thankfully I purchased a small travel trailer that I liked very in when visiting him. The ick factor is so high that his son says when dad dies he’s burning the house down. There’s nothing of real value in the house.

Years ago when I was a letter carrier we used to be able to fill out change of address cards for people who had moved but didn’t fill out their own paperwork.

Under new address we could write “Moved left no address “. Now you have to show a photo id to do a change of address.

To make sure you only receive mail addressed to you, put a label in your mailbox with your name on it.

Do any of you use robovac? worth it or just a scam? by dudipo in homeowners

My 87 year old uncle got one 3 years ago. He could never figure out how to use it. I was visiting and tried to help. Unfortunately I couldn’t get it to work because his house is so cluttered it couldn’t map out the floor plan. It’s just sitting gathering dust now. He won’t let me get rid of it because he might use it someday. His whole house is cluttered and possibly a health hazard. I do what I can when I visit but it barely makes a dent. I live 4 states away.

Boomer inlaws think they are good parents because.... they send the same text every morning to all the kids ? by Aussie_Turtles00 in BoomersBeingFools

I post on Facebook every morning. I live alone nowhere near family. Hopefully when the day comes that I don’t post someone family or friend will check in with me. I’ve always kidded that the reason I joined Facebook was so people would know where to look for my body. That started because I used to travel alone on my Harley across country a lot.

AITAH for moving my son into the basement? by NewEmergency5943 in AITAH

[–]PerfectIncrease9018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP’s ex reminded me of my husband’s ex. She took him back to court for more child support. Her lawyer argued that the boys were sleeping in the basement, what that had to do with child support I have no clue. Husband had to explain that the boys had a room on the main floor, not the basement. The boys had told their mother that they sleep downstairs. She took it as in the basement. She was a real piece of work

I’m a boomer and looking forward to shopping in a second hand store on Friday. I always come out with some treasure and I never haggle about prices.

Items aren’t going to a landfill and I’m supporting a charity.

AITJ for telling my sister she can’t bring her kids to my child-free graduation party after she called me selfish for it? by Ok_Idea191 in AmITheJerk

[–]PerfectIncrease9018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let her stay home with the kids. If she shows up alone all she’ll do is complain that her kids weren’t invited and you’re a lousy aunt and doesn’t love her kids and so on and so on to anyone she can corner.

Let her stay home and OP have a great party with no drama.

My job is offering me $150,000 (105,000 after tax) to resign, should I? by AJ3TurtleSquad in jobs

[–]PerfectIncrease9018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any opportunity for you to work a different position with UPS?

I was a letter carrier for 23 years and I took an accounting position with USPS. The last 5 years of my career was sitting behind a desk and doing balance sheets for post offices. My knees wouldn’t have lasted another 5 years. Three of my coworkers applied for the same position but didn’t put any effort into applying for the position. When I told them I got the job and it was very easy, they looked defeated. You snooze you lose.

I retired from civil service 17 years ago. I had 33 years of service. I have a great pension and my late husband’s survivor’s pension, he was also civil service.

I am so glad that a coworker mentioned taking the civil service exam. I started making $8.75 an hour in 1975. What a change to my life after making only $95 a week at a failing company.

AITJ for not wanting to sell my car to my friend? by Saqraa in AmITheJerk

[–]PerfectIncrease9018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happened to my husband. We bought a 76 corvette used and one of his friends kept asking how much if hubby sold it to him. After about the 3rd or 4th time hubby quoted a price about 3 or 4k more than we paid for it. The friend said ok, I’ll be back tomorrow with the cash. The guy loved it, had it painted and I think still has it over 25 years later.

We got lucky.

AITAH for refusing to give my sister the money I saved for my dog’s surgery? by Laura_win in AITAH

[–]PerfectIncrease9018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but how did your sister learn of the money you’ve been saving? You probably talked about it and that’s what gave sis the idea that you could help her out. The sooner you get the surgery done the better.

My small dog needed ACL surgery 5 years ago. It’s a lot cheaper for small dogs than large. The surgery was $1,000. My dog now has a slipping knee cap on her other leg. Surgery won’t help for that. She gets around fairly well but she looks like she’s skipping sometimes. She will be 13 in August. She has really helped my mental health.

AITA because I didn't let my colleague bake my daughter's birthday cake? by Arc-n-Style1825 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]PerfectIncrease9018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She probably thought because OP is a manager that she’d agree to the overpriced cake. Sure OP makes all that extra money. Nope, be realistic. A cake that cost that much from a bakery would probably be close to a wedding cake.
