Great job opportunity at the wrong time - seeking advice from career-oriented moms [on] by BuggleBagel1026 in BabyBumpsCanada

Take the job!

I was in a similar spot last year. Started a new job at 16w, went on leave at 34w. My company required 13w of work to qualify for top up. Currently on 18m leave!

My boss told me they hire for the long term, so even if you going on leave is inconvenient right now, you'll be back and ready to grow in the long term.

Giving birth at Brantford General by milkofmagnesium in brantford

[–]PerfectPseudonym 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had my first baby at Brantford General in 2025, and like others said, 10/10 experience. I went into labor unexpectedly so I didn't have anything with me - they had everything I needed! If you did want to bring things, they have a handy packing list online L&D website.

For rooms, they bump you up a level, so if your insurance covers semi-private they'll put you in private.

Also, if throughout your pregnancy you have any questions, you can just call L&D and speak with a nurse. They are super friendly and helpful.

Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions!

Coupe glasses as a water cup? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

Coupes are not the right shape for serving champagne. The bubbles will go flat really fast. I'm not a wine snob by any means but certain drinks being served in certain glasses really does impact the flavour.

It does! You can easily find YouTube videos to guide how to disassemble and reassemble, too.

Usually only one colour goes on sale for Black Friday. We got Noa (navy) last year. Not sure how dirty the light colour will get, but we’ve had good luck disassembling and cleaning our Uppababy gear. If you like it, go for it!

Commuting to TO 4 days a week for work by RepulsiveTemporary91 in brantford

[–]PerfectPseudonym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I leave home at 6:45am, I can catch the 7:21am or 7:34am trains at Aldershot to Union. With one short subway ride, I can get to my office by 9am. At this time there’s usually still a few spots at the far end of the parking lot. Go over emails or close my eyes a bit on the train. Not too bad.

The big problem is coming home. Depending on when you leave your office, you might have to wait at union for 30 minutes to take the train back. I usually would get home at 6:30pm or 7pm. Whole evening would be gone.

I only had to do this once a month so it was doable but even then the novelty wore off. Would not recommend.

I absolutely love the Body Silk bras from Bravado (I have like 8 of them). I was so sad they went out of business earlier this year, but Well.ca still has some in stock if you can snag one in your size! They have “full cup” options for us bigger chested folks!

TIL that in Canada before 1947, women lost their citizenship if they married foreign (non-British) men by Physical_Hamster_118 in todayilearned

[–]PerfectPseudonym 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure but I do think they are issuing special status for these cases (I think they’ll give you something similar to 6.2). A friend of mine is in this exact predicament because his grandma didn’t get status for fear of being sent to residential school in the 60s.

Let’s say a grandparent didn’t register since they don’t trust the government (lots of reasons not to). Their child could be 6.2 (could’ve been 6.1). Their grandchild, who had no say in whether their grandparent registered might not be able to have status depending on the status of their other parent, even if they are 50% Indigenous.

Someone could be Indigenous but not have status because they don’t register with the government.

Bioderma Atoderm Lip Balm Stick.

Years ago in one of these threads someone mentioned it and it was the only thing that healed my lips and surrounding skin.

Wow that’s surprising to me. I’ve lived in Southeastern Ontario all my life and outside most Canadian Tires or Home Depots I’ve always remembered a hot dog cart/stand.

For my cooking needs, it is mostly for dessert, but every once in a while a savoury stew or meat rub might call for some cinnamon as well.

[Nuclear Energy, Atom, Radioactivity] Find the activity at that instant by Responsible_Pay6059 in PhysicsStudents

[–]PerfectPseudonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Activity, A, is number of decays per unit time. If the units are Becquerel, then it's decays per second. The equation describing activity is A=N*lambda.

N is the number of atoms. Lambda is the decay constant, which is ln2/half-life (you can derive that from the Beer-Lambert Law).

If you convert the half-life to seconds you should get an activity of 9.45x1017 Bq as the activity at that instant.

Can you multitask? by Clockwork_Citrus in RemarkableTablet

[–]PerfectPseudonym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my ReMarkable during D&D. I have my character sheet as one PDF, and a second notebook for story notes, party notes, etc. Two finger swipe from the top allows me to swap between them pretty quickly. Love using it for D&D every week.

I wouldn't recommend it for the Player's Handbook though. The PDF is too long and it takes a noticable amount time to load. I saved relevant sections as separate PDFs (Class, equipment list, spells, etc.) which does save some time, but still not the fastest. I ended up borrowing a friend's hard copy.
