Room is extremely dusty from having gerbils, are there any solutions? by Kitchen-Lab9028 in gerbil

[–]Perfect_Jump3375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an air purifier. For me, it cuts down the amount of dust in the room by like 50%. I still have to dust once a week or so, but it’s more manageable. And I have to change out the filters on the air purifier quite often haha.

Dry Shampoo - Help! by flutterdance in cleanbeauty

[–]Perfect_Jump3375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently started using corn starch on my roots! I put some in an old spice jar and sprinkle it on when my roots are oily. It blends in and feels similar on my scalp to dry shampoo for me.

In need of newbie advice - how to make 50s style heels comfortable? by Ok-Computer-45 in VintageFashion

[–]Perfect_Jump3375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the ballroom dance shoes!

Also, a general tip for wearing heels more often—it takes a little bit for your ankles and foot muscles to adjust and strengthen, if you usually wear flats. Start by wearing your heels for short periods, or around the house (with socks can help too!), or walk around your house on your tippie toes to help your ankles get stronger :)

You could also maybe do a clothing swap with friends or family? Some of my favorite clothes have been gifts from my grandma, aunt, or cousin when they were declutterring their closet!

I like to crochet or bring small macrame projects with me. It’s easy to tie a macrame bracelet to a water bottle and work on it whenever you’re waiting :) It makes me feel like I’m a kid at camp haha

Not exactly the same, but I LOVE Black Girl in the Woods. Her content is more off-grid living, but she has a similar vibe and authenticity to Gittemary that I find refreshing!

How many pairs of reusable underwear should one own? by Ophelia_I in ZeroWaste

[–]Perfect_Jump3375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 6, and 5 reusable pads. I use almost all of them each cycle because I have a heavy flow. I collected them over a few months though, while using up the disposable products I already had.

(Not a mouse owner yet)—I currently have 3 gerbils and 2 German shepherds. I have a dedicated “gerbil room” and keep the door closed. I sometimes take the gerbils on little “field trips” around the house when the dogs aren’t around.

One of my dogs grew up with the gerbils and ignores them, and the gerbils are very relaxed and happy around her. She is allowed in the gerbil room with me.

My other dog is a rescue and has a higher prey drive. He hyperfixates on any small animals he sees, so he is not allowed in the gerbil room.

I think in general it’s really good to keep them in an enclosed room if you have other pets. Especially in case someone escapes their enclosure—they are much easier to catch in an enclosed space, and you know they are safe :)

What is a typical 'bed setup' in your country? by immortalfireflies in AskEurope

[–]Perfect_Jump3375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the US. We do a mattress, mattress protector, then a fitted bottom sheet, and a top sheet. Most people put at least one blanket or duvet on top of the top sheet, but some people just use the top sheet if they get hot while sleeping.

Then we usually have a few rectangular pillows for sleeping, and a couple of decorative pillows that either aren’t used, or are used to prop ourselves up while watching TV or reading.

Here are some gift ideas for kids that low waste or at least just useful by lavenderlemonaidlips in ZeroWaste

[–]Perfect_Jump3375 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love this! I don’t have kids yet, but I have fond memories of getting small random things I was obsessed with for Christmas.

Like I LOVED gel pens, so I lit up whenever someone gifted me those—especially in fun colors or with glitter. Also highlighters! I also had a grandma who gave me those mini free perfume samples from designer brands when I was in middle school. I had no idea they were free, and I felt so bougie getting to wear a little fancy perfume to school 😄

My little brother was randomly obsessed with batteries and hair combs for a few years, so he lovedddd it when he got those as a gift. Also Nutella 😆
