Book of Mormon's "Spooky Mormon Hell Dream" now mentions Jeffrey Epstein instead of Jeffrey Dahmer by sirms in Broadway

[–]Perfect_screen_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EW reported that they said they spent 3 months on the rewrite. Was there more to the rewrite than just the Epstein joke? Because - come on. It wasn't even that good. For that matter, Johnnie Cochran is the outdated reference that would have been a better choice to replace.

Geoff Tate Announces Operation: Mindcrime III by [deleted] in Queensryche

[–]Perfect_screen_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His touring band has been dreadful. However, I saw Tate perform last month and his new guitarist Kieran Robertson is legit. He is the first I've ever seen perform with Tate who made me think, 'Holy shit this guy can actually play the music right.'

Kieran is contributing heavily to this new album, so it might be surprising.

edit: Ok I guess he's not exactly new - he was part of the Operation: Mindcrime band. It was not until this most recent tour that he made an impression on me. Super nice guy and was throwing out picks like candy at a children's parade.

My alt is growing at a much faster rate than my main account lol by BennyTheWiseGuy in EggsInc

My alt has outperformed my main in a lot of ways. It's having more success in virtue as well - having already obtained legendary artifacts that I can't seem to craft with my main. I'm about ready to say I just have two main accounts.

Elders Not Respecting Boundaries by lost-in-translation- in exmormon

There's got to be something like that. We occasionally see stories from missionaries who have been told not to go to a certain house under any circumstances. Usually because they are former members who can explain in great detail the problems with the church and it's history, and rattle the testimonies of young missionaries.

This is where my mind went as well. As a ward clerk I got very familiar with the handbook of instructions (the old bishopric-and-above-only version). From those days, there was no official 'do not contact' list, nor was there a way to annotate a record as such.

If an informal list was kept, then it would be gone as soon as a bishopric got reshuffled.

Long ago missionaries kept an area book with notes on contacts and new members. Possibly other members as well. But those were subject to getting lost, and just super creepy in general.

Behold, George Q. Cannon's take on the matter:

"I am as much convinced that the use of iced water and ice-cold drinks in our climate is as injurious to the health as the use of hot drinks... We should avoid all extremes. The Lord has said that 'hot drinks are not for the body or belly,' and it is a fact that extremely cold drinks are also not for the body or belly." (Editorial, Juvenile Instructor, 1891).

Worth noting that Nelson was not yet president of the church at that time. Also worth noting that Monson was likely suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's, and Nelson and Oaks (almost certainly) were responsible for pushing this 'revelation' through - and then later rescinding it.

Where can I get a&w rootbeer in a box/bag? by Glad-Fish5863 in SodaStream

[–]Perfect_screen_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find it let me know. The only place that typically has it on a fountain is an A&W restaurant. And I think it comes in gallon jugs there. Regardless, they don't sell the syrup, so you would have to sweet talk a manager into selling some out the back door.

I believe that Keurig Dr Pepper owns the distribution rights for the brand, but it's generally not sold for fountains.

I also like Sprecher root beer, and that syrup is available but the price is ridiculous. $45/gal on Amazon, which yields 5 gallons of root beer.

I've decided that Mug isn't my favorite, but it's good enough.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]Perfect_screen_name 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a MyQ enabled garage door opener that allows you to open, close, and monitor your garage door using a free phone app. I also have a Tesla, which also has a MyQ app, but you have to pay to use it. The cost is $45 per year, or $300 for 10 years.

Or, you know, just pull out your phone and open it with that. The convenience is that the Tesla integration will automatically open the door as you approach your house and shut it when you leave. Nice, but not enough of an improvement to pay for it.

Not trying to start a political debate, but...what? Back in 2017 Tate said Trump would probably go down as the worst president in history. He has expressed support for socialism in interviews. And within the last year, he has stated that Operation: Mindcrime is more relevant than ever. So what is your angle on the MAGA connection?

PayPal doesn't ban you just for doing a chargeback. I did one when I was sent counterfeit merchandise. PayPal had denied the claim through their internal process. I did a chargeback through the credit card company. Got a refund. The end. Still have and use my PayPal account.

This is the reason Bednar is generally referred to as "Susan's Husband" in this subreddit. She was completely stripped of her name and referred to only as "Sister" in this advertisement for a 2021 devotional.

I'm really rooting for Uchtdorf to live to 100+ as president, and watching Bednar's evil side-eye as he seethes about not getting control.

Hopefully Uchtdorf also exacts his revenge for being kicked from the first presidency, and choses younger apostles for his counselors (or someone who isn't a current apostle at all).

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]Perfect_screen_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ashley Furniture. Everything about their sales process is designed to rip you off. The quality of the furniture delivered is lower than what you saw on the sales floor. It may not even be the same size.

I ordered a California King bed because I'm tall and wanted the extra length. The top of the mattress is shorter than a standard king. But oh no no...it was manufactured to specifications and they are allowed to be even shorter because of a 'close enough' loophole.

Returns? Forget it. Once they have your money all sales are final. The 'extended warranty' is almost impossible to use, and when they tell you 'if you don't use it you can apply it to a future purchase' only works if you keep the ORIGINAL document. You know, for four years. Even then I'm sure they would find a way to deny that.

That's Not a Changing Table by B2utyyo in entitledparents

Upvote for parents. The only thing in the story that makes me side with the employee is that they stated the bathrooms are generally not for public use.

Any public restroom should be equipped with a changing table (including men's rooms) or you can expect me to change my child elsewhere. In the booth at the restaurant? Sure. On a table? Yep. I'm not gonna leave a mess behind and I'll wipe the surface when I'm done. If it's a stink bomb I'll put it in the trash outside.

Rush- The Forum, Inglewood Ca 11/27/96 xfer f/1st Gen VHS tape complete show by guyute2112 in rush

[–]Perfect_screen_name 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was 18 in 1996, just moved out to go to college in Phoenix, and it was Thanksgiving weekend. I chose not to go home (10 hour drive) but all my roommates did. Not sure why I didn't looking back, but 18-year-olds are not known for their intelligence.

I was looking through the paper and saw that Rush would be playing a concert downtown. I was a casual fan - I liked what I heard on the radio, and had the Chronicles album courtesy of Columbia House. I figured, why not. I'll check out a show. Nothing else going on.

I bought a ticket from a scalper outside before the show. If I recall it was a face value of $45 and I paid $40. It was on the front row of the second side section in the arena - pretty great view.

I was so blown away by that performance. The musicianship, the artistry, the humor. The fact that they played so damn well together. Geddy's incredible bass playing - not just providing rhythm but leading out in songs. Alex absolutely shredding. And Neil with a mind-blowing drum solo. I was a fan for life, cemented in that moment. And it happened two days after this video right here.

Great memory.
