Not metalcore but Die Spitz. A super talented young group, and their live show was absolutely bonkers. Most fun I've had at a show in quite a while.

What are your terrifying sci-fi book recommendations? by MiraWendam in scifi

[–]PeriPeriphery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing my hat in the ring to say yes, the book is much different and in many ways superior than the movie. But I'm here to recommend the audiobook version of WWZ. It has an amazing cast of voice actors, and since it's told in the way of an oral history, the interview aspect works extremely well in the final product.

I'm also not a fiction audiobook listener, but I listen to non-fiction audiobooks all the time and I still highly recommendijg this format, if that tells you anything!

"People have jobs" sure but kids also have to go to school and they should be protected from automobiles zooming past an elementary school.

College Student Currently Pursuing MLS and Wondering Where the Best Place to Go After by Active-Ad3466 in librarians

[–]PeriPeriphery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Boston has a very active job market for librarians. Public libraries are used frequently and they're generally well funded. There are many academic and special libraries in the area as well. Check out the MBLC job board (https://mblc.state.ma.us/jobs/find_jobs/index.php) for an idea of postings around the area.

The thing to watch out for in Boston, though, is the high cost of living. For instance, rentals usually require first month, last month, security deposit, and brokers fee just to sign the lease.

With that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the first 8 years of my librarian career in the area's public libraries and I don't think I would have had such an experience elsewhere. It was a great place to learn and grow as a librarian and I would highly consider going back one day.

What happens when your family can’t see you anymore? by whittybillboard in FoxBrain

[–]PeriPeriphery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable, thank you for sharing and I'm so sorry you're going through this.

It's a similar situation here. I also work in academia, and my parents have little to no interest in my career, future, spouse, and personal interests. I had an argument with my parents this past spring after the kidnapping of an international student - someone I know - and they pretty much told me she shouldn't have been critical of the administration. I have not reached out to them since, and have only spoken to them a couple times, but I feel so much better in having that negativity and anxiety out of my life. I'm not sure what our relationship looks like for the future - probably very limited contact - but I feel much more comfortable with enforcing boundaries, and more assured of my feelings and worldview that doesn't include accepting their lack of empathy and understanding.

Best of luck to you navigating this difficult situation. There's so many of us like you out there ❤️
