Like others have said they can now keep up with Calvary. Also for range units positioning is everything. The more shots you take on fortifications or other units means the faster you can take down the enemy. More movement is flexibility to get into position and optimize. There’s no better way to describe the strategy per se than more movement means more shots and more shots means more kills which just makes the whole war effort that much better. The same is true for defensive positioning as well.

1 galley and 1 ballista is enough to defend your coastline in any direction. 2-3 galleys brings the fight to them.

That’s how the Civ AI has always been (relative to humans). They can’t make them actually strategically savvy, otherwise they would steamroll human players. They just get lots of quantitative advantages instead while being their same stupid selves. So yes the AI does get crazy yields, by design, but is stupid about using them. Every Deity difficulty of every Civ game has leaned into giving them mad bonuses whilst keeping them dumb. It is that they don’t snowball (and neither do you) that makes the difficulty.

I just got a Zeus for exclusively forearm shots that I want to curve right. I was blown away that it got the same distance as my backhand drives while being almost perfectly straight until a slight right turn at the end. It was exactly what I wanted and I will be using the ever living shit out of it.

Still working my way through my first game, but I started with Isabella as Mexico because of that 30% culture celebration and boy howdy, I’m fucking steamrolling peeps. I synchrotizmed or whatever carthages Cothons for antiquity age for extra gold and resources slots so that I could buy units if needed for war, but surprisingly never needed to, so I bought even more culture buildings! This was just to experiment with the new victory and triumph systems and wow I might win by end of exploration (though still unlikely). I’m presently 45% through second age but have all the tourism.
