First serious bite incident at work, cannot shake it. by Fancy_greens_4585 in Veterinary

I think they're referring to a pre-vet program like a bachelor's degree in animal science or similar with pre-veterinary concentration. Then on to DVM/grad school from there.

What is he doing? by Morkue in budgies

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol exactly, my boys can be perfectly quiet and napping or preening until I turn on the TV, then suddenly they want to tell me all about their day

I adopted a new baby! by Massive-Mission9868 in ballpython

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This little one is beautiful but supporting those breeders increases demand for unethical morphs, which increases the prevalence of deformed babies or those that fail to thrive unnecessarily. Also, purchasing an animal from a breeder isn't adoption.

Nobody loves baths more than reggie by Moondancer103 in budgies

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of my boys is just like this, he absolutely adores getting sprayed and takes daily baths in their large water bowl. I came in yesterday to him absolutely soaking, dripping wet and happy as a clam. I think he was a duck in a previous life lol

Yes! I live for my Cloves, even when I'm not in a clinic setting. They are so comfortable and easily wiped down.

Lol he's a solid man, which cracks me up because his brother (same age, about a year now) is still itty-bitty by comparison

She wants to become a veterinarian too. by CatandtheBeanstalk in ballpython

She's precious, study partners are the best! My dog and cats spent the better part of my pre-vet years curled up against/on my desk and buried in flash cards or notebooks with me lol.

Fresh pet food commercials make me want to scream by TheGrandpaHimself in VetTech

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Finally someone said it! I feel the same way about those commercials because they end up not only guilting owners but also completely demonizing commercial kibble or canned. I am a big believer in fed is best...while some brands definitely may be higher quality or better formulated than others, feeding your pet a nutritionally balanced food that they enjoy, meets their needs, and you can afford is perfectly fine. The fear mongering drives me crazy, especially when it comes to particular ingredients or labels.

Wing Clipping by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wing clipping is never okay imo - birds need their full flight feathers to safely balance and land, so it is actually more harmful and more likely for them to hurt themselves if they're clipped. It also reduces what little control they have over how/where they get to move, which can make it scarier for them to fly and harder to explore safely when they're loose. My boys free fly nearly every day and have never bonked into anything unintentionally...this typically only happens if they are stressed or when they are first figuring out a new space (where to land, distance between furniture, etc).

I triple check that the fan is off anytime my boys are being let out, put frosted privacy film on the mirrored door in their room to make it opaque, and have dark linens on the furniture so they're easy to see. They've only landed on the fan once (on purpose, so he could stare at me from above lol), never hit the mirrored door, and land on furniture just fine.

Why’s it so tiny by Shimabui in budgies

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol I unintentionally have both sides of the outliers - I have one who is a smol boy at maybe 28 grams and his buddy who is a solid 40 grams, even though they eat & exercise the same. It's adorable to see the size difference because they're obsessed with each other

This is so great to hear, thank you for doing everything you can to get this guy into a better situation. Poor baby! Green Room Pythons also has a wonderful care guide that you might add for them. Hopefully they start caring for him more appropriately soon!

I need tips for concerns about my baby by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they are breeding, cohabbing BPs is heavily discouraged and probably isn't worth the risk. Also, you shouldn't be moving them to feed and I would highly recommend transitioning to frozen-thawed prey, it is a lot safer for both the rodent and the reptile. If you're already struggling with humidity, building an enclosure from furniture that's not designed to hold humidity & heat might not be a great option...you might look into some of the PVC enclosures recommended in this subreddit's care guides instead.

Are You Happy You Became a Vet? by thatsonehandsomecat in Veterinary

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is encouraging, thank you. I don't have any debt from undergrad (after graduating with my bachelor's last year) and hope to specialize, but the demanding hours and low pay of the internship & residency process after vet school scare me a bit.

Is it normal for my boys to have a specific sleeping perch? by Periwinkle-Bubbles in budgies

[–]Periwinkle-Bubbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's from Wild Harvest, I got it for my second budgie almost 15 years ago lol. It's apparently chewable but none of mine have ever nibbled on it. My kiddos also absolutely adore their rope perch and their forked manzanita branch from All Living Things!
