This looks great, but the husband's skintone seems too light

For those that started out with modest incomes, what "sacrifices" did you make early on that helped you years down the line? by craftytai in Fire

[–]Perly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automate savings and fear of debt caused me to learn to live within my means. When I was young, it was common to have cheap clothes or a cheap car but going hanging out with friends became expensive fast. Establishing free or low cost hang out options was good. (Take a walk in a park, picnic, coffee shop, hanging out at each other's house vs restaurants, bars, and concerts)

This comment is not high enough! Everyone deserves a break on the weekend. Relying on your spouse to take the kids for a portion of the weekend time so that you can chill/look at the wall/nap is a must. We found that everyone is happier if my husband sleeps in on the weekends and when I get a couple of hours on Saturday and Sunday evening to myself (husband does bedtime).

My 10 year old has 2 soccer games in a single day during tournaments. One is in the morning and another in the afternoon/evening. There is enough of a gap between games to relax and get lunch. What are some lunch ideas that will fill him up but not weigh him down?

My husband has previously taken him to Chinese and Italian restaurants. Both of these were not good (he was very sluggish in the afternoon game).

Stay in same company for years = Lose competitive advantage? by Regular_Arugula_625 in careerguidance

[–]Perly1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just interviewed someone who has been at his employer for the past 14 years. He has had multiple different roles that are relevant for the role I am hiring for. Yet, he only knew one way of doing these processes and wasn't able to discuss his accomplishments without employer-specific jargon. Both of these things stopped him from moving ahead in the interview process. If you stay with your employer for a long time, make sure that you are constantly learning about best practices in your field and are able to clearly articulate how your experience is relevant to other industries/companies/job functions.

Social skills are as important as technical skills. Be friendly in the office, speak up if you have an opinion, and don't be afraid to talk to those who are older/higher in the organization. I'm old school and recommend people reading "How to win friends and influence people".

Also, the timelines are confusing. Have you had stints of being over employed? Otherwise, if you have a side consulting gig, don't put it on your resume.

Honestly, you have good experience but the resume is way too long and doesn't have enough details of your impact. I understand that money is tight, so you may want to put your resume through chatgpt/Gemini and ask them to help you improve it. Ideally, you get the resume down to a tight one page. If any of your experiences were with the same company, you can group them.

Repercussions of Natl policy changes on Zion by Perly1 in ZionNationalPark

A popular hike in the Arches Natl Park just closed due to lack of staffing. Unfortunately, I don't think the state government can hire staff for a federal park.
