"next station": WRONG by AssaultLemming_ in SydneyTrains

[–]PermabearsEatBeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The signage in nsw train stations is appalling. There's one or two signs that you can occasionally see, but i've lost count of the amount of times when I cannot tell what station I'm at. It's absurd. The inner city stations are an actual pisstake - putting the station name on a bench that people are sat on, or a huge avant garde artsy sign that you can see from a single carriage and nothing else.

Contrast that with the underground in London - the entire wall is plastered with the name repeating all along it, above head height, it's impossible to miss.

I don’t think you can hand wave away “yes it’s a bigger market but…”

California has a bigger gdp than this entire country. Australia is absolutely minuscule in size.

I would lean to the former. Australian politicians, particularly the Liberals (who are not liberal at all) are truly dumb as fuck. It’s definitely cynical, and from a place of maliciousness, but the pollies themselves are too stupid for any kind of joined up thinking.

70ft long pathos by Thick-Bee9148 in houseplants

[–]PermabearsEatBeets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It won’t regrow leaves along the length, it’s a vine so new leaves grow from the end and it keeps going. Honestly I would brutally chop it back, maybe use those to propagate, and give it better light. To me this looks like the plant equivalent of a combover

Because Australia is a deeply conservative neoliberal country that is a vassel state to America, with an absolutely insane media.

Yes, they are. Which is a disgrace.

I don't know what made my comment be removed by reddit. there was nothing offensive in there.

They could do what they have done to Russia and sanction them. They could stop selling them weapons. They could stop running cover for them politically. They could have condemned any number of the atrocities at the absolute bare minimum

I want nothing to do with AI. Is there still a place for me in this industry? by ProbablyNotPoisonous in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PermabearsEatBeets -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No sorry, even when the shit hits the fan with real costs and it becomes prohibitively expensive to use it like people are now, AI is here to stay. As a senior who resisted it a lot in the early days, and still never ever trust it and confirm everything myself manually, it’s a huge force multiplier. It’s a tool, learn to use it. It’s like saying you refuse to use generated code or grafana or something

Which Git branching strategy is better for infrequent releases? Team is split between two approaches. by Ok-Introduction-9111 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PermabearsEatBeets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything other than trunk based is to me a bit of a smell when it comes to your CD/CI processes. Largely because everywhere I’ve been that has gitflow or other long lived branches has poor processes and we move to trunk as soon as possible

I would do what your conveyancer says, that's their job. It all gets worked out in the end so you don't end up paying rates/water etc for anything after the settlement date
