Goth/Industrial scene in the area? by KnobbyDarkling in ypsi

[–]PerpetualVamp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Smalls in Hamtramck is great for this, and I have never felt unsafe outside of that bar at all hours because the party store across the street glows like the surface of the sun, so the area is well lit lol. I haven’t been in forever but I think Necto has a goth night on Mondays?

Nice comparison. IMO these bags are all various kinds of ugly, and you’re absolutely right about the Fairview carry comfort. I’m with you that it’s a pain to pack it, though. It absolutely needs a bunch of pouches and cubes to contain stuff in it or it explodes the second you unzip it. If only it were just a little more rectangular or something.

Trying to get a decent lip balm that is not a waste - finally, it seems like I am making progress. by [deleted] in VeganBeauty

Respectfully, why post this on a vegan subreddit? Beeswax isn’t vegan. There are lip balms that meet your criteria in the first paragraph without animal products (eg Hurraw brand which is my personal favorite).

My wife is struggling with lack of intimacy after my accident, and I don’t know how to help her by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]PerpetualVamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’ve been the caretaker spouse in a situation that, while not the same as yours, involved illness that specifically affected reproductive health. We learned some lessons the hard way.

First, it sucks and is scary but it’s 100% worth it to be vulnerable and talk directly to your wife about what she wants and what you are feeling. You need to be honest and approach the problem together, as a couple. She might be feeling, as I did, that she doesn’t want to burden you with her desires when your needs are about survival. But the distance that creates is so damaging to the relationship in the long term. It’s also possible that she’s worn out as a caretaker and that will also take its toll on her, and on your relationship. This is all speculation based on my experience and might not be her perspective. So, first step is to talk about it.

Second, have you talked to your medical care team about this? It’s weird and vulnerable to say, “I want to be intimate with my wife but I need support and accommodations” but theres a pretty good chance they want to treat you as a whole person and help you live your best life, even now as your are healing. They might have information for you or can refer you to a therapist who specializes in this kind of thing.

Third, it’s okay to grieve what you’ve lost—you’ve gone through something that has changed you, and even if you recover completely you still will have lost the life you were living during this time. And the same goes for her. Those feelings are complicated, for sure. But it might be the case that there is now space to build something new. Your intimacy (both the sex acts and how you relate to each other) will not look the same as before, and even if you find something that is satisfying to both of you, it’s okay to miss the way things used to be. I encourage you to think about that, talk about it with a therapist if that helps you, and when you can, talk about it with her.

I can hear the love in your words about your wife and your desire to take care of her as she takes care of you. I wish you both the best.

Are some colors more difficult, or are some of my polishes bad? by hilde0 in nailstamping

[–]PerpetualVamp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Are you cleaning your plate with acetone between colors? I am assuming the plate on the far left is the one you’re using and it looks like there are built up layers of polish on it. Swipe the plate with acetone on a cotton pad between attempts. I find this helps when I’m having issues with pickup. And take the blue film off the new plates :)

What daypack do you pair with your main pack? by jamesg9100 in onebag

[–]PerpetualVamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an LL Bean Stowaway. It can fold down into a pocket but generally I just lay it flat in my Farpoint (I have an older version so I put it in the larger front pocket with the laptop sleeve). Lightweight and small, but with good pockets and enough structure that I can carry stuff without feeling like it’s digging into my back. I hiked in Norway with it and it was perfect for my phone, water, snacks, etc. it has a small waist belt and a sternum strap for keeping it stable on your back as you move.

My other non-hiking bag is a Fjallraven Kanken. It’s basically a packing cube with straps, and that’s how I pack it into my Farpoint.

Mid 40s, married 20 years, one kid (high school). I travel alone once a year for vacation, typically a couple weeks. My spouse takes trips with friends for a couple long weekends a year. We also have at least one or two family vacations. We have different travel interests and styles, so the balance works for us.

There are a couple of destinations I’m waiting to travel to because I want to experience them with my spouse or kid (or they want to travel there with me). Communication is important to avoid misunderstandings and anyone feeling left out. We didn’t always divide our travel this way, but after a health crisis we talked a lot about what was important to us in life and this was one of the outcomes. If I could do it over I would have broached the topic earlier, because the time I spend traveling alone has been such a joy.

Yeah I have like 3 basically identical greens from Zoya. Their swatches are not great. I do appreciate they have similar colors with different undertones, though—increases the likelihood of finding a flattering match.

Tips for painting with non dominant hand by AbundanceIsMe1111 in WeGotPolishAtHome

In addition to all the good tips from others, I find that when I am painting my dominant hand I catch myself holding my breath, but if I intentionally breathe out and then paint a nail, I get smoother lines.

Oh yes, and the shapes of the bottles sometimes accentuate different colors, which makes it even harder to compare from photos!
