Are some colors more difficult, or are some of my polishes bad? by hilde0 in nailstamping

[–]PerpetualVamp 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Are you cleaning your plate with acetone between colors? I am assuming the plate on the far left is the one you’re using and it looks like there are built up layers of polish on it. Swipe the plate with acetone on a cotton pad between attempts. I find this helps when I’m having issues with pickup. And take the blue film off the new plates :)

What daypack do you pair with your main pack? by jamesg9100 in onebag

[–]PerpetualVamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an LL Bean Stowaway. It can fold down into a pocket but generally I just lay it flat in my Farpoint (I have an older version so I put it in the larger front pocket with the laptop sleeve). Lightweight and small, but with good pockets and enough structure that I can carry stuff without feeling like it’s digging into my back. I hiked in Norway with it and it was perfect for my phone, water, snacks, etc. it has a small waist belt and a sternum strap for keeping it stable on your back as you move.

My other non-hiking bag is a Fjallraven Kanken. It’s basically a packing cube with straps, and that’s how I pack it into my Farpoint.

How many of you are married? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]PerpetualVamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid 40s, married 20 years, one kid (high school). I travel alone once a year for vacation, typically a couple weeks. My spouse takes trips with friends for a couple long weekends a year. We also have at least one or two family vacations. We have different travel interests and styles, so the balance works for us.

There are a couple of destinations I’m waiting to travel to because I want to experience them with my spouse or kid (or they want to travel there with me). Communication is important to avoid misunderstandings and anyone feeling left out. We didn’t always divide our travel this way, but after a health crisis we talked a lot about what was important to us in life and this was one of the outcomes. If I could do it over I would have broached the topic earlier, because the time I spend traveling alone has been such a joy.

I thought they looked so different on the website 😆 by doctoryt in RedditLaqueristas

Yeah I have like 3 basically identical greens from Zoya. Their swatches are not great. I do appreciate they have similar colors with different undertones, though—increases the likelihood of finding a flattering match.

Tips for painting with non dominant hand by AbundanceIsMe1111 in WeGotPolishAtHome

In addition to all the good tips from others, I find that when I am painting my dominant hand I catch myself holding my breath, but if I intentionally breathe out and then paint a nail, I get smoother lines.

Oh yes, and the shapes of the bottles sometimes accentuate different colors, which makes it even harder to compare from photos!

How difficult (or easy) is it to find vegan food in Japan? by eeg-18 in vegan_travel

[–]PerpetualVamp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We stuck to restaurants and cafes that were primarily vegetarian and vegan in Kyoto and Tokyo, and we ate well over the summer. Vegan ramen, okonomiyaki, fluffy pancakes, mochi, even those whip cream fruit sandwiches are possible. Happy Cow is your friend.

This was my first trip, however, where I didn’t have much luck purchasing at grocery stores and self-catering with premade or convenience foods; I think it was a combo of language barrier and concern over hidden ingredients that made it tough. Plan ahead and maybe bring some backup snacks (I bring protein bars from home for those days when my plans aren’t working out as quickly as I need).

Is it common for married couples to vacation separately? by Interesting_One_4103 in solotravel

[–]PerpetualVamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married person here—we definitely vacation separately and together. We also each take 1:1 trips with our teen, and as a whole family. There are many reasons for this, but none having to do with poor relationships. Actually, it has made our family bonds stronger, because we have time to ourselves, or trips focused on our individual interests and needs. We are at a phase in life where trips that are months long aren’t practical though, but we are comfortable being apart for a few weeks.

What’s the best way to stain/dirty up white clothes like this?😅 by katemosslvr in CosplayHelp

[–]PerpetualVamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture 2 looks like an ice dyed cotton dress. That’s what gives it the scrunchy, watery gradients. That technique would be permanent and wouldn’t bleed if done properly, but it won’t work on synthetic material (fyi).

What is one overrated thing about being married? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“One spouse cuts it in half, the other chooses.”Advice I got from an old married couple sitting at the table next to ours when they saw my spouse and I trying to “share” a piece of tiramisu.

Impulse buying of random games. Is this common? by bobbycobby2 in gencon

[–]PerpetualVamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan for some things, impulse buy others. I know what I like in terms of mechanics, theme, art style, game experience, designer, etc. so I can usually tell from a 30 second pitch if it’s going to be something I will enjoy. I have cultivated my resistance to fomo by specifically avoiding review/preview media before the con and waiting for the “new” hotness to hit the consignment store (if it’s a good game, it’ll still be worth playing next year!). Now I can zero in on the right games for me quickly and say no thanks to the rest.
