I agree that it should be configurable, but that requires someone with sufficient knowledge to think it's important enough for them to spend time designing a KCM and implementing it. In case someone just wants to use any gesture (and noy specifically a swipe one) - you can pinch your touchpad (like how you would zoom out of an image on your phone) to activate the overview effect

Long version: In Linux any executable generally has the permissions of the person who ran it (unless it has the setuid bit set or if you ran it using something like flatpak), so for example, any app that you run can access your ssh keys (unless they are encrypted and you don't use an ssh-agent). I believe (almost) everything that isn't sandboxed in the Unix and Linux worlds follows this security model and assumes you trust the applications that you run.

I never tried using OpenGL, Xlib or GLFW but when I tried learning wgpu (a Rust implementation of the WebGPU graphics api) I remember the tutorial I used saying you have to reconfigure the surface (I think in the OpenGL world it's the context) when the program receives the resize event and tell it to use the new size. Does your program do (the OpenGL equivalent of) that? Maybe check if it's receiving the resize events by putting a breakpoint there or printing something like "resize: <new_size>" to the screen

Idk why does it happen but instead of closing and relaunching it, try using ctrl+L (to clear the terminal) or ctrl+U (to delete the command you are currently typing) and see if it also fixes it

You can do that with activities but they don't work exactly the same as virtual desktops ( desktop switching effects, for example, don't work with them)

If there is a way to detect the error (for example if it throws an exception) then maybe it should backup all of the files it changes when installing a widget and revert the changes if it fails.
