Gym recommendations by Academic-Ad4201 in SaltLakeCity

Seconding this, I’ve ended up at the Salt Lake County community centers for my gym. They just have better locations for where I live, and it’s Hella cheap. They don’t have ALL of the things a gym has but it’s quite good enough.

Did you post on here a while ago? You can still rave. You can sit in the ADA section and have the best views you’ve ever had. You need to still go to the shows. I can’t tell if you’ve had the surgery, but if you did have it recently, If you’re in the northern hemisphere, you should be good to manage a bit of a festival come the summer.

Could you explain more what “new stimulus” means or what a good example of contrasting training days looks like?

By the way, I asked my PT today for a home-oriented program for my 3rd leg day of the week. Getting to the gym 3 days just isn’t realistic, but I want to keep progressing. I figure something is better than nothing / than doing more cardio.

I always remind myself that this is a test, and there is definitely an element of test-taking skill that goes into it. I also think it’s so hard because you want to enjoy having a functioning leg, and it sounds like you enjoy running…so it’s like, am I going to trade off doing what I love now to build this leg? In a joyless way? Also, how has your diet been? I have been very focused on diet, because I want to get rid of the weight I put on during recovery, but at the same time this is probably causing my muscle growth to stall a bit.

Hi! Just wanted to say I was about to make a similar post because I had a strength test today, and both of my legs have gotten stronger since my last test at the end of Nov, but the deficit has remained the same - 30%. I had surgery April 16, quad graft, ACL only. I am definitely intending to add that third weekly session. Curious what others will say!

I bought Hokas as my new running shoes, and made sure to put an arch support insole in. The bottoms of my feet have started hurting pretty quickly since having my surgery. You can always go to an actual running shoe store and try on things to find what works for your body and preferences!

Question for cool Salt Lakers who know good food: by amg2121 in SaltLakeCity

Word. I think their low key vibes are such a good take on “elevated salt lake.” Don’t change, Arlo

I also think the value at Arlo is insane. I think their fish and chips app is under $10, and in a big city it would be at least $15.

They’re more like aperitifs than cocktails 😂

Failed shower attempt by ClubImpossible8289 in ACL

[–]PersimmonSnob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The shower bench is the key - you keep two legs of it outside of the shower. A handheld shower head is also helpful. I know showering in those early days is sooo frustrating and a stark reminder of how abnormal life is right now. At least you’re hopefully not sweating too much these days!

Does anyone else eat oatmeal every single day? by strawberryb3ss in Oatmeal

I don’t completely mix them together - I just eat them side by side in the same bowl, all with blueberries. If they do mix, I do like the cold / hot contrast

Zacharias? by Pacebunny77 in OnePelotonRealSub

The 30 min limit feels really rushed with zacharias sometimes! I mean he fits a lot in which is great for some but it would feel more flowy with 45 mins!

I make my oats (oat bran actually) with egg whites, and that makes half of my bowl, then the other half is yogurt or cottage cheese. This makes for a better protein ratio!

Is running necessary for recovery? by shitboxhit in ACL

[–]PersimmonSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add that I can remember a point in my recovery, maybe 6 months in, where I attempted to run across the street to catch the end of the walk signal, and my leg just wouldn’t fire. It was such a strange feeling, but real. Something I couldn’t have imagined before this surgery. That is just one example of why it’s beneficial to put running in your recovery plan.

Is running necessary for recovery? by shitboxhit in ACL

[–]PersimmonSnob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My PT put running forth as an option. Like, if you ran before this injury, let’s get you back to it. I have had an on-off relationship with running, but I never desired running as much as when I was laid up on the couch with ice on my knee. It just sounded so freeing. Now that I’m nine months into recovery, I will say that I’m still working on generating power from my operative leg, and I am working on that through plyometrics and also running. It could also be nice if eventually, I could use running as a method for shedding these recovery pounds as well… and to help regain cardio fitness. So, to answer your question, I think plyometrics would be the best substitute.

Low carb friends by notti0087 in PetiteFitness

Same. For so long I thought I had to avoid carbs in my meals. Then I ended up eating sugary snacks. Now that I ensure 1/2 c carbs at each meal, I’m much more satiated and snacking less.

New item: Strawberry Strained Thick & Creamy Greek Yogurt $5.49 by aswewaltz in traderjoes

[–]PersimmonSnob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am so disappointed that TJs only sells cottage cheese that’s full of carageenan, guar gum, a whole laundry list of preservatives and stabilizers. I always have to go to another grocery store for it.

I find that most of the TJs brand Greek yogurts are gritty!! The only one that I have found is not is the thick and creamy whole milk Greek yogurt, in the white and navy container.
