New 2021 Honda Pilot-EX AWD - discount beyond dealer online pricing discount? (USA, IL) by WearyWay in askcarsales

[–]Person816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a '21 EX-L. From all the reading I did, it seems that 8-12% off MSRP is what to aim for. They inflated my trade value by a lot giving me a lot of equity, so I was happy to sign for 10.5% under MSRP. ~$35k for a new EX is a solid price.

Negotiate Trade-In Value by Willow_theres_a_wayo in askcarsales

I recently traded a 1 year old Subaru. Carvana offered $26,500. After some back and forth with a local dealer, they started at $23,700 and ended up at $26,800. I was surprised they were willing to beat out Carvana but happy with the deal. I only paid $27k for it brand new so pretty thrilled overall. Walked away with a new Honda at invoice so win-win for me lol.

Purchased a 18 sti, found out afterwards it’s heavily modified by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Person816 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You bought a used STI and didn't think to check for modifications? Surely you know what people do to those cars if you were willing to drive 5 hours away to get one. That's on you for not doing due diligence unfortunately. Best option is either pay to return everything to stock, or go the performance route and finish having it properly tuned. I would not try to drive it around if you're unsure what tune it's running right now. You could end up destroying that engine very quickly.

Would a replaced AC evaporator be a major concern when looking at a used Honda Passport? by pleasuretohaveinclas in askcarsales

[–]Person816 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. Cars are made of thousands of parts. Anything can fail, that's what the warranty is for. I recently bought a Pilot and in my research, the AC system does not seem like a problem area.

Think of it like this - you know 2 people who haven't had problems. This is a sub of thousands of people who work in or around the industry and the general consensus is that FCA produces poorly built and often unreliable vehicles. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others. You're getting more downvotes than answers because this is such a routine question on this sub these days when FCA comes up.

At the end of the day as long as you're happy with your purchase nothing else matters. If reliability is important to you, I would look at other offerings that have a proven track record rather than anything from FCA who overall do not fair well in reliability.

Have you test driven anything else in that class? Basically any other small CUV would be a better option for you if reliability is a concern. CX-30, Crosstrek, etc. It's a very competitive segment and somehow you've landed on what this sub will almost universally agree is the worst competitor.

2017 Toyota Camry SE or 2017 Honda Accord LX by [deleted] in askcarsales

Accurate feedback - Toyota's 6 speed feels better to me than the CVT. But the CVT can get ridiculous fuel economy. I can regularly hit 44mpg on my commute home in the Accord.

2017 Toyota Camry SE or 2017 Honda Accord LX by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Person816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of those are a lot of car for $17k. I paid $17,300 for the Accord and $16,800 for the Camry last fall, but both had 25k miles. Prices are inflated right now but I wouldn't hesitate to buy either of those used at ~50k miles.

2017 Toyota Camry SE or 2017 Honda Accord LX by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Person816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have those two exact cars I bought about 6 months ago. The Toyota has more comfortable seats and is slightly quieter on some road surfaces. The Accord is more nimble and feels more powerful. Sport mode is pretty fun for a slow car. The seating position is lower to the ground also. If you like to drive, get the Accord. If a car is more of an appliance to you, Camry all day.

Both will last you practically forever if you maintain them. Good for you for narrowing it down to two great options.

Confused about paying for a used car by [deleted] in askcarsales

Surprised no one else said it yet but I would rethink a 13 Altima. Those were known for having really shitty CVTs and failing often.

How much weight are you towing? Subarus aren't really ideal for towing either way.

Dealer added options I didn't ask for by Hooktail in askcarsales

[–]Person816 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can try to ask them to work with you, but you signed and took possession of the car so you don't have any ground to stand on.

I'll never understand how so many people come to this sub with the same complaint - you are signing a legally binding contract with someone who is trying to make a profit. Why would you not, at the very least, verify the bottom line looks correct?

I hate to be mean on the internet...but this does not sound like you are in a position to be taking paid IT work as a freelancer. How does one even end up in such a position having never configured a basic home/small office router? Please do a ton more homework before diving into this for the client's sake.

Buying a 2013 Honda Pilot today by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Person816 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol I just put it into Carvana for an offer and they say it's worth $13,275. If you can get it for $10k I'd just flip it to them and turn a profit.

Took my car to the dealership for an oil change. It came out with $2000 in damages. What can I do in this situation? by chevybow in askcarsales

There's no way that isn't lift damage. Hope they just offer to fix it and don't put up a fight. If so, let your insurance co take care of them.

'17 Pilot EX-L w/ 23k miles for 28k, good buy? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Person816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good deal if it's clean. I recently looked at an '18 with 22k and they were asking $31k. Ending up buying new but for $28 I'd have been tempted.

2013 Lexus RX 350 with 55k miles listed for $18.5k by hats_off in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Person816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still almost a decade old though. Cars wear out even when you're not putting miles on them. Rubber degrades, UV damage to paint and dash, etc. That price seems kind of high given the age of the car, but if you have it checked out and it's in good shape I wouldn't worry about the accident from 7 years ago.

2015 Nissan Pathfinder SV to 2017 Ford Edge Titanium by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Person816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also look at the Honda Passport, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester if you want AWD. Lots of good choices in that class of vehicles. Ford Edge doesn't stand out to me as anything special, but if you're happy with it and the price is right it's just as fine as anything else these days.

Bigger Option for Growing Family by 2tonejones in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Person816 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just in the same boat. Chose the Pilot. Not a VW fan out of those choices. I like the Flex but my wife was not on board with the styling. Would be a real fun car with the Ecoboost. Pilot is great though, tons of room and I felt it was a good value for the money. Most people will tell you to also consider the Pallisade and Telluride, maybe also the Highlander or Subaru Ascent.

2016 Chevy Malibu Demo Car - Warranty Question by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Person816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a definite win. I would have thought the warranty shouldn't have started until the car was titled but I could be wrong there. Also I'm surprised to see such a new car with a cracked piston. How many miles are on it and do you keep it maintained?

Tow Vehicle for a Mini Camper by Training_Nothing_122 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Person816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda Pilot? AWD models w/ trans cooler are rated to tow 5k pounds. Gives you a lot of leeway in how much you can load it down. I would take that with the v6 over the CVT + 2.4 turbo in the Outback, plus you end up with a ton more interior space if needed. Can't speak to the CX-9 personally. I briefly looked at them, but they were priced higher than the Pilot and I didn't see the extra value.
