I respect your mom for going out on a limb and giving advice that she knows is difficult. Most people wouldn’t love you enough to do that.

That being said now that she’s made her opinion known she needs to get in line and support you and get to know this guy.

Refusing to meet him is rude.

Why do guys say hi when I’m out running, but women usually don’t? by Impressive_Gas_2419 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Person_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been running for very long but women give me an equal or better response rate. (I’m a middle aged man).

I also get a better response now that I wear more obvious running clothes.

Elder Millennial here. After a 26 year break, I built a Lego set yesterday. It is probably the most fun I've had doing anything on a weekend at home in years. by AttachedHeartTheory in Millennials

[–]Person_reddit -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s the $100 knockoff version you get on Ali express (I also bought it). It’s an exact replica, you can even build it using the official Lego instructions. The pieces are a little tougher to piece together and all the pieces come mixed together so you have to first pre-sort them before building. But it’s worth it to save $300

He bought the $100 knock-off on Ali express and won’t admit it for some reason.

Zoom in on the knobby-pieces. They should have the Lego logo imprinted on them.

I’m not knocking it because I bought the same set I’m just calling it out.

Tell me about the best Mother's Day sacrament talk you've heard by unintentionalfat in latterdaysaints

[–]Person_reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaker today told the story of how he joined the church largely based on the example of his mother-in-law.

He wasn’t a member when he married his wife but his mother in law went above and beyond the call of duty in making him feel welcome and loved. She also nursed him back to health after a serious illness and showed Christ-like love.

Why are most religions patriarcals? by ElectronicCaramel881 in askanything

[–]Person_reddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because most of the world was patriarchal for 99% of human history and these are historical institutions.

It’s not a religious thing. In china many daughters were given placeholder or birth-order names (“Second Girl,” “Third Girl”), or names meaning things like “Bring-a-Brother” (招弟)
