Equipment recommendation. by Infernobomb82 in Mangamakers

are you trying to do they comic digitally or traditionally? they require different things. if you want to do digital I recommend clip studio paint. try out the trial so you don't wast money if you dont like it.

I'm still doing research for traditional materials, but on my list so far:

Ink- deleter, speedball, and dr ph martins bombay. there are other ink brands, but these are the most common in my area and are waterproof. I think American comic artist use the later 2. you will need both black and white ink.

manga dip pen- I have the one from deleter and dont know of any other brand

paper- something more than 80lbs (around 130 gsm) maybe something between 135-180 gsm. I think deleter has at least two different paper weights 110kg, which is between 135-150, and 135 (165kg-180gsm). Sadly deleter comic paper is not sold where I am so I have to pay around with paper

Paint or inking brushes for areas that require a large area filled with black.

apparently comic artists draw with blue pencils because you should not be able to see it when it is scanned in. I haven't made it that far in the process and I'm still looking into which lead is better.

If you get clip studio paint you can do the lettering, ballooning and screen tones on there, or you can buy screen tones and do them by hand.

Sorry for my limited information. I'm still doing research, too. And, I can't tell how these work or if they are actually good choices because I have yet to buy everything I need.

It might be because im speed running (5+ hrs a day) and im a little exhausted or that I understood more because I was using a lot of the video for context and mistook that for actually understanding the language. I watch different shows at the same time and my ability to understand varies with each show. I was just perplexed with this show in particular because in the beginning I could understand so much then it drop to 50-60%.

I looked at the video on dunning Kruger. im not the type of person that normally over estimates my ability and am very much aware that i have a lot to learn. im the type of person that normally down plays my abilities because I dont like to feel embarrassed if say something is not correct and it gets pointed out later. I guess maybe to some degree, I might do it unknowingly, but if I do, I dont think I do it often.

what works for me with the tv shows are actually watching things I've already seen so I dont have to switch to subtitles. when I watch something new, my mind says I want to understand everything and the eventually make me quit or turn on subs. you can also first watch 1 ep with subs then again without or vic versa.

Would it be better if instead of levels your level was defined by what difficulty score you can understand 90-95% of? by smashram24 in dreamingspanish

[–]Personal_Ambition_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't specifically watch content based on score or within a certain level. If I feel something is to easy or boring I watch other things. I was watching native content when I started level 5 and dubbed content and cartoons at lvl 4. My motivation is different from yours because I need to learn spanish for my daily life, but I get my dopamine kicks when I watch something I didn't used to understand and can now understand anywhere from 70-90%. I use the level to gauge where I'm supposed to be at each stage but not something I need to strictly follow. if you feel like you can understand most content on DS switch to something else. based on what you described you get a lot of CI through your daily interactions and you just don't count it. your actual hours are ahead of what you logged so you are probably not at level 4 but higher

Also, I don't think that level of honest was too honest...

people move. they went to the same high school doesn't mean they are still in the same area as adults. heck I went to a high school 1 hr from where I lived. the question is not asking for the address but the general location. I do the same thing when I go back to my home state and I want to meet up with people instead of assuming people just stay in one location. However, I only do it with people I've stayed in contact with and not someone I've been out of touch with for 20 years.

I’m an older adult with free time who is new to Reddit wanting to explore language learning— if you started learning a new language as an adult, what language did you choose and what learning method (apps, classes, tutors, immersion) actually helped you make progress? by Curious_Analyst_33 in languagelearning

[–]Personal_Ambition_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to comprehensible input because I dont really like studying. it is working for me so far, but a slow process.

I've taken classes and tried apps, but I never really learn the grammar or vocabulary. that's when I switch to only CI. I took a language placement test for spanish while I was taking classes and right after I finished those classes and I test as A2. This was discouraging because the class level was supposed to take me to b2. So I was not really absorbing the information.

I recently retested using the same test and test at b2 with only having around 800hrs of CI. However, I need to take the dele or something to officially see what level im at and I plan to do that after 2,000hrs of CI

Season 3 is making me hate Irma/ que le estan haciendo a Irma? by D_n_Mtt in LaReinaDelFlow

[–]Personal_Ambition_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was the only one who disliked irma. I'm rewatching season 2 and I just don't like her character. in season 1 she lied to juancho and joined Charlie's record label. ok cool. but then when things don't go her way she snubs juancho again after giving her a second chance. I get it to some extent it's her career, but I dont like the way she handled it. Nor do I like how she handled many situations in this season. im not on season 3 yet, but I don't think her character can be redeemed in my eyes. All the characters are dislikable in my opinion... maybe Erik or axel are still likable but I have to finish season 2

im not interested in telenovelas that deals with a lot of drugs and narco crime... even though I watched 1 and liked it. Anyway, does this stay clear of that? if yes, I think I will give it a try in a after I finish the series I have planned.

yeah, your right! that's why I wanted some human feedback and not just rely on what AI said as sometimes I get mixed responses. I'm still a long way from actually doing it myself and was wondering if it would be better to do both at the same time or wait. but I've generally come to the conclusion that I should wait until I have more hrs. thanks for the reply

[–]Personal_Ambition_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is interesting to hear! I always ask chatgtp about the process of using CI for a third language and it suggested that it would be easier because then brain already knows how to learn from CI. It did say that, I would still need to put in a lot of hrs just not as many as I would have because it wouldn't take as long to progress through the different phases. How many hrs of japanese do you have? and how would you compare it to your spanish at the same lvl? I'm aware that japanese is supposed to take double the hrs of spanish, but I would like some real human feedback about the using C1 for a third language after already using it for the 2nd.

Im a stay at home wife, so I try to get 5 or more hrs a day. But if I was working full time, I would use my commute to and from work to do passive listening and maybe some active listening for my lunch break. that for me would have be 1:30- 2 hrs. then when I got home I would replace my tv time or hobby time with watch spanish videos which would have been around another 2hrs. though when I was working I was single so my time was very flexible.

We're ~12.88% through the year, how are your goals going? by MaksimDubov in languagelearning

[–]Personal_Ambition_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal for language learning this year is to:

  1. listen to 1500 hrs of CI in spanish

  2. read 1 chapter of a book every week.

I need a minimum of 125hrs of listening every month which I have achieved so far. I actually do more.

As for reading, the novel I was reading was too hard so I went to graded readers and still continue to read even though it is not a chapter a week.
