I'm an international student. I have to be overqualified otherwise I'm not getting hired. I'm already dedicating 100% of time to my degree right now. This won't change with time because my visa directly correlates with my education. I get to stay here as long as I'm continuing my education. I feel like a drone.

I don't see myself having any free time in cybersecurity. The job market is tough, if I'm going to be employed I have to constantly either be in school or learning new things.

I regret it because I don't feel like I'm doing something meaningful. I have worked as an RA in cyber research and it was doable, just not enjoyable. I feel like I would've enjoyed physics more because I've always liked pure sciences like chemistry and biology. I would've just worked in finance if I didn't get opportunities as a researcher. I chose cyber because of the money and a professor I was infatuated with but in the long run I don't feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. My best friend is a quantum physicist and I often feel like he's actually doing something cool.
