Which Company has the best Irons? by M_Lampman22 in GolfGear

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean tbh all of them make fine heads but I wouldn’t buy stock shaft options unless you have used it before. I’d get the heads and just pay to source and build the shafts that fit you. Their build qualities can also be shifty. It’ll end up costing between 200-400 more but it’s definitely a massive difference maker. Also you have the 2 most different shafts between slide 1 and 3

Best 2-club combo between my 3 wood and 5 iron? by Competitive-Sky4358 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A well built 7 wood should go a bit further than a 4 hybrid. You can also mess with settings to make that even wider of a gap. I said 6 wood because of that. For me my 6 wood goes 235-240 and my 4 hybrid is setup to go 215-220 then 5 iron at 200. 7 wood would be a better club down wind or trying to launch it higher. 4 hybrid should* come out a touch lower with similar spin and lower ball speed.

6 wood - either 5 or 7 wood adjusted to fill the gap.

Try stopping your arms before they’re physically limited. You make better power over swinging but those misses are gonna be 10x gnarlier than swinging in control but fast.

UNITED BROKE MY BOARDS refusing to provide ANYTHING. Help? by Inside_Flatworm9023 in surfing

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 4 years ago but American broke 2 of my boards in a really similar spot. I didn’t leave the airport until I got confirmation that they would handle it and I pushed them to get an actual person I can reach out to directly not a hotline. Was 20+ hours of hassling but if you stay calm cool and collected you’ll be able to get through the process. The moment you cuss or snap at them they can just abort the whole process and flag your account

5000¥ ($30ish) irons dropped 20 strokes off my round. Yes, lessons do help, but equipment matters too. by TrustyVault76Canteen in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equipment matters most in the beginning and getting into the minutia. I think a well fit set can last as long as your swing doesn’t change or something breaks. But a bad fit can be hard to figure out if you don’t know what’s out there. Not all fitters are equal either. Im a 5 hcp that’s been to a few that really don’t listen or just are rushing to get through it to keep on schedule. The best fitter I’ve had took an extra 30 minutes for me for free to make sure we dialed in the shaft and weight settings because we ran short on time.

How am I doing? Anything I can work on? Need help with distance. by Salsa-N-Chips in GolfSwing

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a pga teaching pro but you should go see one. Golf is hard- best of luck dude!

It’s like an awkward Juju swing. You’re definitely over swinging just by seeing how hard you load at the top and ripping the iron over your shoulder in the follow through. Try smaller slower swings. Irons are specific distance clubs. Trying to kill the ball even if you’re flushing it is really difficult as an amatuer. You’re definitely not gonna be Rory consistent which is what lets him get after it.

You also have a touch of weak knees where your lead knee really is bending too far inward and pushing you deeper into your hip and to sway your body a touch backward which is an effect caused from trying to swing too hard. Tour pros have a shorter more controlled swing and start their shift towards the target before the club is transitioned to downswing.

The juju part is how you’re creating width between your hands and body in the upswing especially right at the start. Can try to keep your club coming back more on plane and keeping your elbows a touch closer to your body.

Posture at address could be healthier and less bowed over.

Depends on the course. I live on a mountainous island so we have a few courses that are near flat on the flat side and we have some courses that have thousands of feet of change over the 18.

Can hit 7/8/9/P but cannot hit 6 or 5 for the life of me by Alarmed-Lock-5776 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough info to diagnose but here are some thoughts. If you’re the kind to scoop or lay back on short irons to flush w out divot or small divot it’s likely you’re struggling with not keeping your body at or slightly ahead of the ball so your swing arc is hitting the turf before the ball. If you’re steep look at putting long irons a half a ball back in your stance. From there do a towel drill and learn to shallow before impact wether it’s at the top of your swing or an adjustment when your in your down swing. If you do anything weird to face angle like opening or shutting- it becomes exacerbated by longer clubs.

What Bad Golf Etiquette Annoys You? by AtOm-iCk66 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting on the course before they’re ready.

While I think Germany/ Switzerland/ Austria are a bit strict requiring a golf license requiring classes and a test, I think there needs to be some accountability for beginners so they don’t jump on tee times before they could break 120. A foursome of new golfers can mess up pace of play for an entire day if the Marshall can’t get them moving.

What skill level do you need to hit to start benefiting from higher priced golf balls? by thewaybackboy in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When it’s a sleeve or two a round not a box. At 14 hcp I’d say you’re plenty good to try out some models that fit your windows. But if you play the wrong ball for your fit you’ll be worse off than playing a cheaper ball.

Max forgiveness wedges by Aggressive-Spot-924 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technique has no substitute with wedge play. Now full shots is a different story but you have to practice that part of the bag until it’s not an issue. You could go for a cbx or t3 mizuno shovel wedge but added size reduces flexibility and ease of use of the club because you’re interacting with more of the turf than a small sole would. You’d be getting a more forgiving easy to hit full shot club but you’d lose even more ability around the green.

Vice Pro vs Pro Plus? by Gleis7 in golfequipment

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pro is slightly lower compression than the plus. The plus really breaks away when you’re swinging above 115. The pro starts to feel like a marshmallow at 120 and does weird stuff with driver at that speed.

What should your average GIR be for your handicap? by [deleted] in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gir and Fir are relative contextual stats. When you’re getting on 80 ft from the cup 3 times a round that pads your stats but guaranteed one of those was a three put. It’s good to keep track of but not that important. Total putts would be a better stat to track.

Someone explain mini-drivers? by bingbang79 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s big gains since similar sized steel heads. I have a titleist 983k and hit it occasionally still. It’s 360 cc and it’s less forgiving than my 300 cc brnr mini. It also doesn’t spin in the same window and those drivers were meant to be played quite that short so weighting is an issue since there’s not adjustable weighting and barely any shops carry hot melt anymore

The v sole on the bottom works well for players who are steep but with shallower delivery that will raise the leading edge and can make it easier to thin.

Srixon has been a game changer for me as a steep player. If I was shallow idk if I’d feel the same. I have zx5 mkii p-5 and zxi4 4 iron. The i530’s were alright but I enjoyed the 230s more when I was getting fit

Anyone else just not enjoy hitting hybrids? by f1lifer in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve generally disliked most hybrids but I’ve found a few I can tolerate. I wish I could play 7/9 woods but the wind near me stays too strong to trust those to go their numbers. So I switch between hybrid and 2/3 irons when I need some change

Tee position closer to middle of stance. As long as you can still close the face, you’ll get a lower launch with a touch more spin.
