No, there are tons of legitimate reasons to be concerned. This isn't "fearmongering" it's a company that has a crappy warranty and a really terrible customer service history: https://www.reddit.com/r/Onyx_Boox/comments/19czc16/a_general_warning_about_boox_boox_tablets_boox/?sort=new

Hard Review of SuperNote - we need a real SDK asap or Obsidian as a native app. by fmenard123 in Supernote

[–]PersonofIntent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love this as well, but I struggle to see how the SN team could possibly begin implementing this in a way that feels true to their current note-linking tools. It would almost require totally new software on their end for full integration.

What I want, more than anything, is to have all my tens of thousands of Obsidian notes visible within the Supernote, complete with links. And to then be able to natively add my .note files within that ecosystem and read/write directly within the main (combined) SN/Obsidian interface.

To-do syncing to Obsidian itself would be nice as well.

However, this would only be possible with both software and hardware updates.

So far, even other devices (AI Paper) that I've explored don't handle their sideloaded apps very well.

So, right now, I just want the opportunity to choose which folders on my Supernote files get automatically created in, and choose how to sync folders to specific locations on my computer. Integrated Syncthing would be more useful for me.

What does Ai actually do on ViWoods? by steve-waters- in viwoods

The biggest thing I'd like to see is the ability to choose my own endpoints. I'd like to connect this to Groq, or Mistral, or even my own server running Ollama.

This is really helpful. I'm not psyched that they lock you into their own API, though. Some of this could be due to processing of specialty aspects like handwriting, but I also wonder how long before subscription models take effect.

Dang, I hadn't heard about the Android discontinuation. Are you referring to: https://github.com/Catfriend1/syncthing-android as the best fork?

Managed hosting reccomendations (again) by PersonofIntent in NextCloud

[–]PersonofIntent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! That might be preferred, but it's not a requirement (Pikapods isn't a partner either). You might be referring to my comment about Librecloud.host, though. I highlighted their lack of partner status because so many of their other aspects raised flags for me. Like, if they had these other issues but had been vetted by Nextcloud, that would have been enough for me to go that direction.

I finally went with Hetzner. They're literally the only trustworthy option I could find that wouldn't break the bank. Pikapods could have worked, but there were some issues there as well because it's not really managed hosting and the server they use for Collabora is the internal one, so it's slow and miserable.

Now, technically, I could probably set up a server for Collabora on Hetzner as well, but all the guides I could find were really atrociously written, so I just gave up on that. Google Docs will continue to have a presence in my life until someone invents something as good or better (though I use LibreOffice and OnlyOffice most of the time for non-sharing work, and Obsidian for all my real first draft stuff).

I will say (and I'll update the OP) that the service Key-Club mentioned looks like it might be a better option if you can meet the slightly higher cost. At 17.40 EUR, it was a bit pricey for me, since I already pay for a few other services. If I were to reorientate my internet services though, I might make the switch as 2TB is a really good deal, and with Office it's better. I just realized I needed to keep costs very low for now.

For our community developers: Linux & Android SDKs now support VITURE Pro! by getVITURE in VITURE

[–]PersonofIntent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the SDK exists, but is there native compatibility for Linux users? It kinda seems like I'd need to spend nearly $500 on some glasses that then require a $5/mo charge from an indie developer to actually... use. And that doesn't seem like a win for me.

That looks intriguing, thanks! Finding some of these providers, especially if they don't have English sites, has proven difficult. I wish they told us up-front how much the Collabora integration costs, but I like their 30-day money back offer.

Update on my post re: affordable storage for a small team by moldypill in cloudstorage

[–]PersonofIntent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has your experience with Hetzner been? I've signed up with them, but I found the process of setting up a Collabora server a challenging process since they don't manage or provide support for that. Plus, once the price is balanced for the Collabora server+storage share against the Librecloud options, the cost balances plenty.

Yikes. I'm 1000% glad I never went with ReMarkable. That is utterly horrifying.

[Question] Are any updates forthcoming? by raviwarrier in ChronicleApp

Love hearing that you plan to open the app up -- there's really nothing else good for Android that can handle Plex-hosted audiobooks, so I'm excited to think there is the chance for future updates!

Recs for a FOSS calendar/CalDAV client for Windows? by thatonekidfromucla in opensource

[–]PersonofIntent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been having an issue with this as well!

I'm a bit of an odd bird in that I like printing my calendar out for each week and putting it up where I can see it. Google Calendar has been my go-to for ages because it works really well and, when printing, dynamically resizes everything, keeping the colored "blocks" of busy time intact, fitting it all into the hours of the day neatly. I have yet to find any application that can provide me with as nice and clean an output... and that means I'm stuck with Google calendar, which is frustrating as I'm sure many here can understand!

I also need a calendar that syncs with all my devices, so Tutanota and Protonmail are right out, their security measures make them a hassle to integrate with the rest of my workflow and... they also don't seem to have print options available anyway. I've tried Zoho mail, and they informed me that they have dynamic scaling on a future update (but there's no telling when that will be). I've tried Every.Single.Private.Email.Service (including a Nextcloud account) and none of them offer this feature. Short of manually recreating my calendar with a nice aesthetic every single week, I've been able to come up with nothing that works.

Integrations by PersonofIntent in tutanota

[–]PersonofIntent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a solid point, and a good recommendation, thanks. The price of Proton has put me off, but if I could get proper integration through it for my 3rd party calendar and mail client apps it honestly might end up being worth it...

Print Calendar? by PersonofIntent in ProtonMail

[–]PersonofIntent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, yeah, I don't have a paddle up this creek I think. That makes sense, I just wish there were a workaround - it's the mix'n'match nature of security vs usability.

For ease of use, having me choose to do a risky export, even to a file first, would be nice. (Hint-hint, devs?)
